"Would you just calm down already" Leonardo snapped at his brother, growing impatient

"Calm down? Calm down! How could I possibly calm down?!?" Donatello snapped back angrily, "I'll never find the retromutagen! It's over, Leo" he slammed his fist against the table, you had never seen the passive turtle so enraged. "I'm useless! This is impossible!" He yelled as he stood up straight and walked away from the group of turtles and human that stood by his side. The 5 of you had just watched Donatello's hope melt away as his last retromutagen test only worked for two minutes before the cells remutated.
You watched as he walked out of the lab, slamming the door as he went.

"Dudes...Should someone go talk to him?" Mikey asked quietly, the three turtles turned to look at you,

"What?" You finally asked after several moments of silence,

"I vote, (y/n)" Mikey said

"(Y/n)" Raphael grunted out his vote. Leonardo just shrugged,

"(Y/n) it is" He said

"Do I even get a vote?" You asked sassily

"It wouldn't matter, its three to one now go make him happy like you always do" Raphael said with a soft smirk. He was the only one who knew of your crush on his older brother, little did you know he also knew of Donatello's crush on you.

With a sigh you walked out of the lab, you heard another door slam, he was in his room now. Softly walking down the hall you stopped outside of his room and debated knocking. As you raised you hand to knock he interrupted you, "If you plan on coming in, (y/n) just come in" you chuckled, you forgot he was a ninja sometimes. Poking your head inside his room it took your eyes a few moments to adjust to the dark. "Please don't turn the light on, I have a headache" his voice sounded from his bed. You didn't say anything, careful walking over to where he lay you sat down on the edge of the mattress. "What?" He finally broke the silence, "Are you here to tell me I acted irrationally and shouldn't have stormed off? Or are you here to tell me that "all hope is not lost" or that "if anyone can fix it I can"" He sounded so tired and just...done.

"No," you said quietly, you felt him shift to look at you,

"Then what?" He asked curious now

"I'm just here to sit" you say, "I hope that's alright with you" you can feel his chocolate brown eyes on you,

"You can lay with me for all I care" he replied sounding more like himself than the anger that fueled him. You felt him touch your arm and he gave a small tug. Complying you laid down beside your best friend. He didn't touch you at first, "Why are you doing this?" He finally asked after a few silent minutes

"Doing what?"

"Making me want to go give the impossible another try without so much as opening your mouth" you thought a moment,

"Maybe because you know that it's not impossible deep down. Maybe knowing that someone's here and cares for you gives you the desire to try again." You answer, he wraps an arm around you and pulls you body into his chest for a hug,

"You always brighten my day with your presence" he mumbles, releasing you, but you stay snuggled into his warm frame. "Why are you so amazing?" You giggle,

"I should ask you the same thing" he chuckles deeply, his chest reverberating against your ear, sending shivers down your spine. "Truly, you don't see it do you" you sit up and look at him, barely able to make out the outline of his body in the dark.

"I see that I'm better with you" he sits up as well, you can feel his hot breath on your face, "I want to try again...but I want you to help me this time" he says and he shifts to stand, picking you up as he goes, setting you down he suddenly gasps "I have an idea! Lets go!"

"There's the Donnie I know and love" you think as you follow him out of his room. He was always one to bounce back.

"Okay okay now...one drop of mutagen..." Donatello bit his tongue as he slowly added the glowing liquid into the mixture, the two of you had been working for 8 hours straight on this batch of retromutagen, "It has to work!" Donatello said as he watched for signs of progress
One minute
Two minutes
Three minutes
...
Nothing was happening, then suddenly...the glowing substance dimmed, growing excited Donatello tested it
"It's... It's..."

"It's what Don?"

"I think its actually working.... The last test the cells had not fully reverted back to their normal state, thus why they remutated... But these look....look...normal" he looked up at you, "They look normal, (y/n)" suddenly it seemed to hit him, "THEY REALLY LOOK NORMAL!!!" Cheering loudly he was over come with joy, "WE DID IT WE ACTUALLY DID IT THIS TIME IT WORKED" He ran to your side and picked you up, spinning you around as he went, "THEYRE NORMAL WE'VE FOUND A RETROMUTAGEN, (Y/N)" Setting you down he looked deeply into your eyes, "Thank you so much for believing in me" pulling you close he kissed you deeply, "Thank you so so much, please stay with me forever" tears began to stream down both of your faces, "We can save...we can save so many people now...we can save everyone!" You smiled and leaned against his chest,

"Ill never leave your side Donatello" you say softly, "Now...Let's go tell everyone the good news" you say, and arm and arm you and Donatello walked out of the lab. Holding the key to not only saving the city, but to each others hearts.
