I'm not even sure I really see what other people are calling a "bad fandom". I am not a part of any forums because I fear the shining wire of people's unkindness, and there are certainly quite a few disrespectful idiots hanging around taking other people's creations and abusing them awfully, but I wouldn't call those people "fans" (*chuckles* guess I just called them "idiots", actually XD). They will tire of their own nuisancing and will eventually move on to try and bother something else, I'm sure. So I mustn't be seeing the awfulness quite so badly as others see it. I'm a fan because I love the show and I love the characters, and there are others who seem to be able to work cheerfully as I do, and that's good enough for me.

See, I don't believe in true neutrality, either. Kevin Smith's Muse is correct; Azrael did not choose a side when God fought Satan, and so he was banished to hell, not because he fought on the wrong side, but because he was too cowardly to choose a side at all. (Unlike Elvis, who fought for his country when he was drafted. "That's why he's the King," the Muse tells Azrael. "And you're a schmuck." 
Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible for everyone to work cheerfully, since I can't condone being disrespectful to the creator and to the characters. Some people would rather wave a banner of "pseudo-neutrality" and claim that everyone should turn a blind eye to these disrespects because it "stops the fighting", and that's not helpful either. It's the most divisive and destructive of all, in my opinion. It's not right either to just say anything goes when the whistle blows simply because it avoids conflict. Being peaceful and wanting fighting to stop is no excuse to disrespect the creator or the characters.
