Description The Frangipani are starting to flower, but the rain we are having is ruining the beautiful blooms though I managed to find a couple with no brown or watermarks on them.

Hi I am in Australia and been on many Garden sites and some people in the USA grow them in pots and put them in the house or under cover in the cold seasons

Their botanical name is Plumeria you may have heard of them by that name.
Plenty of info in this [link]

Oh yeah I have heard of Plumeria. They are really pretty. I might have to look for some in the Spring. It's coming up fast here so I'll have to stop by some garden shops

A very beautiful flower that I'm not familiar with, is it an Australian native?
Brown spots etc. are very easy to remove with any good photo program. I've had lots of practice on maple leaves.

No its not a Aussie Native..

You will know it as a Plumeria..

Oh yes I have a good program and use it often here in the wet season as the flower have so many spots on them... Thank you for your advice and lovely comments.. ..

I still don't know it but then it is a tropical/sub-tropical plant and this is Canada.

I love the manipulation abilities we now have in digital over the old film medium. I'm learning so much every day.

Yes I can understand that, though you would be surprised at what can be grown in your Country. I have a garden friend that grows lots of varieties in Denmark. They are potted up so he can take them indoors during the colder seasons..

I love what you can do with digital photo's also, shame I am old and kind of shaky as one of my daughters tried teaching me a few things but even with her graphic tablet I am no good, I just manage the basics..

I am a take it like it is type of gardener with an "if it doesn't survive the winter it wasn't meant to be" attitude. It's limiting in some ways and liberating in others.

You and I are very close in age and I know what you mean. I do my best but their is a line beyond which my brain doesn't seem to want to go.

Oh yes I am a little the same way, only its water so I try to grow plants that dont need a lot of water.

Having said that I cannot get rid of my roses which are very hard to grow here..

I agree only with me its the body, it wont let me do what I want too..

My body is holding up well, as far as physical activity goes there's not much I can't do. Sounds like we'd make a good pair....my legs and your brain.

I haven't been a rose gardener in the past but I have planted a few in my new space. I have learned that they are very heavy feeders and don't bloom if you don't feed them. They also seem to require a lot of spraying for bugs and molds which I am not fond of doing but I try to use the most natural stuff I can find

I manged to save one of the very old climbing roses that was in the mess that was here. It flowers spectacularly and is very hardy but it's an old variety and only blooms once a season for about 3 weeks starting the end of June. It's a climber so I have given it an arbour and I planted Morning Glory with it and when the roses finished blooming the Morning Glory was ready to bloom so it worked out rather well and I'll do that again next summer.

My body is really bad some days, but hubby said my mind is like a can of worms never stops, he reckons he can see my brain ticking over by the expression on my face I wish I had his talent

Roses are very hard to grow here, with the hot drying winds that scorch the blooms, then the humidity, so plenty of Blackspot, mildew, and the bugs Oh its bug heaven here you name it I have got it, from aphids to thrip, bud grubs and other kinds of caterpillars. I try and get most insects off my hand as due to not being permitted to use a outside hose I cant hose them off.. I wont use chemicals either as I have so many frogs, birds and bearded dragons in the garden.

Old roses are good you hang on to that one.. Your idea sound delightful..

I know what you mean about the mind never stopping. Mine used to multitask very effectively but now if I try to do more than one thing at a time something will get messed up and usually does. It's like someone built a brick wall in my brain and I keep running into it.

It sounds like I live in rose heaven compared to you. We gardeners are determined if nothing else but you have many more obstacles to overcome than me. We have unlimited water although it's not free and we do try to conserve. Our bugs are of the normal sort and can usually be discouraged with a dish soap spray. We get a good supply of rain and snow so very seldom have drought conditions. We do have lots of racoons and squirrels but they're only interested in my veggies. Given all of that I sure do envy you your mild climate.

We started gettiing rain in August 2007 the best for seven years, we had decent rain last week so where before we could only use 140 lts per person per day they have now lifted it to 170 lts per day thats only three buckets of water and on this 3/4 acre block it wont go far.

We had to put two tanks in one smaller one for the veggie garden and a huge one for me for all the flowered plants I grow..
