why don't you try something more normal? AU fics are the easist to write and the ones that get the most responce.
and think of when the characters are actually in that world, what would they do? Don't force something out of them and make it OOC. that's why there're array of characters in all fandoms, they all have their own personality. (well I can't say much since I go for the desired effect too)
