I’ve actually checked the Rumble Roses Wiki, and it seems like Kamikaze Rose’s outfit is supposed to be similar to Reiko’s Superstar Outfit (rumble-roses.fandom.com/wiki/F… )
Quote: “When Reiko wins enough matches and becomes popular enough (80% plus) she achieves Super Star status. Her hair is depicted as having grown out, coming almost halfway down her back. It's at this point, that she looks almost identical to her mother (Images of the "Kamikaze Rose" can be seen in the reliefs on the archway leading to the beach)”
Granted, I can’t find any pics highlighting said archway relief on Google Image Search (let’s be real, the guys taking screenshots of a RR beach match are NOT looking for Easter Eggs like that. XD), but I can see this outfit before Kamikaze became champion of whichever circuit she was on (everybody’s gotta start somewhere...), before wearing something similar to Reiko’s Superstar outfit when she became the champ.

Interesting idea if true. I fired up the game to see the archway image, because I didn't remember it being anything special. I guess it could be meant to be Kamikaze Rose, but I would never have assumed that, and it seems like a leap of imagination to me. Other arenas show images of Reiko, so I don't know why this would be different. Though it would be amusing if there was a secluded island resort themed all around Kamikaze Rose. If so, I want statues, banners, interactive displays... not just this tacky thing. In any case, thanks for the food for thought.

Yeah, I can actually see how it might be a stretch of wishful thinking. But at the same time, considering Reiko is defined as something of a Momma's Girl in BOTH of her alignments (Face!Reiko constantly praying to KR for guidance and approval, Heel!Reiko quietly fearing her new attitude will ultimately disappoint her), I do think it wouldn't be out of character for Face!Reiko's Superstar costume to emulate her dear old mom as much as possible (in case you're not getting the hint, PLEASE make a "Superstar Kamikaze Rose" Costume!).
Oh, and slight Fanon here, but I've decided Kamikaze Rose's real name is Katsuko Hinomoto (to fit the "-ko" naming theme of her daughters Reiko and Fujiko, while also meaning "Triumphant" in Japanese, which you better goddamn believe she was!)

Haha Reiko is sooooo boring! That she wants to be a carbon copy of her mother is an insult to Kamikaze Rose. Some years back I spent way too much time writing way too many pages for a Rumble Roses novel that went unfinished. The world is happier without it anyway. It was meant to cover everything I could reasonably get in there, but throughout it all I never settled on the true name for Kamikaze Rose.

Yeah, it's why I honestly prefer most of the Roses Heel personas, with a few exceptions (namely Noble Rose and Yasha vs. Evil Rose and Benikage, and perhaps Dixie and Miss Spencer over Sgt. Clements and Mistress since their Heel personalities are a bit one-note despite possibly intriguing concepts - and in "Sgt." Clements case, admittedly her costume as well), since they're often a lot more creative in costumes, and sometimes even personalities - I'd also prefer that they're not a result of being Brainwashed And Crazy by Anesthesia/"Dr. Cutter", but more like how the once bright-eyed, innocent - and let's just admit it, NAIVE - Roses wound up becoming after various tragedies impacted their normal lives (the way their monologues in their original Alternate Story Modes implied, such as Reiko falling into the biker lifestyle after she lost her sister, before finding a new family with her new gang - which I may or may not rename from "Road Warriors" to something like "The Cobra Clan", but that's getting off subject a bit).
Basically, if it was up to me to pitch a reboot for Rumble Roses (and for the record, the current idiotic leadership of # FucKonami is NOT invited!), I'd set up the career mode like so. This is going to be LONG, so strap in:
-> Normal Career: Basically a soft reboot of the first game's storylines, with some minor tweaks based on new characters, and dialogue choices that might have... "aged poorly" since the first time around (which admittedly is easier said than done, considering it's a challenge to figure out which dialogue is flat-out bad, and which is a teasing send-up of good old Pro Wrestling Kayfabe), and when the selected character wins the Rumble Roses championship, it unlocks...
-> Superstar Career: Basically the "Title Defense" mode from the Wii version of Punch-Out!, where the current champion and all the other Roses fight each other wearing the awesome Superstar costumes (with maybe a few re-designs here and there - the most notable would be Evil Rose, since she won't "mutate" into a green-skinned monster, but instead have a Dragon-like costume (images-na.ssl-images-amazon.co… ), complete with "wings" that she "flies" with in her ring intro - preferably with something like this as her intro music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQxWYy… ). Of course, when the end of Superstar Career happens, something happens to either the player character, or somebody close to them, which unlocks...
-> Streetfight Career: This is after all the characters got slammed HARD with one tragedy or another at the end of the Superstar Career, and wind up falling out of the Rumble Roses circuit altogether. This ultimately leads to their Heel (or in the case of pre-existing Heels, their Face) turns, although it isn't a straightfoward pitch between "innocent good girl -> vicious mean girl", nor vice-versa, as they most often tend to fall more on the line of Anti-Hero side (Sgt. Clements, for example, won't be a "openly Corrupt Cop" like her original portrayal, but somebody who TRIED to be a good cop, but ultimately got framed and burned by other corrupt cops at her precinct, forcing her to go Cowgirl Cop (tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php… ) to bring the real villains to justice).
This is also going to feature the biggest Gameplay Shift, since instead of one-on-one (or at most two-on-two) pro wrestling matches, or even just the "we use a health bar like every other fighting game" Street Fights, but full-on Beat 'Em Up gameplay, similar to Rockstar Games adaption of The Warriors (www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR7Pgz… ), or perhaps the Yakuza games (www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMUr36… ). I'd personally love to see Heel!Reiko (who, incidentally, I'd rename to Cobra Rose, or even just Queen Cobra when she's still trying to hide the fact she's just Reiko again, and being smart enough to hide her face with a bike helmet a la Durarara's Celty: vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/du… ) use her entire crew of biker girls while beating the tar out of another gang. There will be one-on-one fights when certain Roses wind up having a "reunion" of sorts at certain points of the Streetfight Career, but it will rely on the Street Fight rules (i.e. fighting to a KO instead of a Submission or Pin), and frequently allow for weapons to be used.
But as they say, it's always the darkest before the dawn, and when the Roses all find some redemption on the Streetfight Career, that leads to...
-> Streetfight Superstar: This basically switches the format back to the one-on-one/two-on-two pro-wrestling matches of the Normal and Superstar Careers, but with the characters "alternate" personas (in addition to their awesome Superstar costumes, with again some exceptions - Aigle's "Killer/Great/Whatever Adjective She Uses This Time Khan" would have something closer to Princess Mononoke's wolf pelt outfit - like so: www.deviantart.com/sakimichan/… - than the CORNY wolf ears of her XX Superstar costume) all getting fully fleshed-out storylines instead of a "you only get story cutscenes for the very last match" of the original Alternate Story Modes - this will restrict the weapons as well (the fact that in XX, the Heels almost ALWAYS start with a weapon, and NONE of the Faces do, really smacked of gameplay imbalance to me), but it'd allow the Heels gameplay style to be used in classic wrestling matches, and some closure to the Roses individual stories.
Like I said, this was LONG to write out, so let me know what you think!

I always enjoy long comments. I've had some discussions like this before, and I tend to agree about there being some kind of career mode with dynamic outcomes. I believe that RRXX was sound in theory but somewhat clumsy in execution, and that with a much cleaner UI and clearer goals the game would have been vastly improved. Too much was hidden or just inconsequential, and without some kind of storyline or bigger career idea, it became repetitive. I think the street fight was a mistake in general and would prefer instead to see more variation in arena and match styles and not suddenly having a totally different control scheme. It would be good to deepen the movesets and even have them customizable. I don't necessarily need to create a wrestler from scratch, but it would be good to have deeper command of the available characters.

I will say that I slightly disagree with your opinion on Street Fight, in that I think it WAS a boring disaster when implemented the first time, but can have potential when framing it as the Heel characters cutting loose with every weapon and dirty trick at hand (think the original Def Jam games, where the environment and audience can be used to cause extra damage to the opponent, and Rockstar Games’ “The Warriors”, where everything from bottles to chairs to sledgehammers can be used as weapons). Basically, don’t have it be a slower and more boring Tekken or DOA, but have it fast and brutal like, y’know, a “Street Fight” (not to be confused with Street Fighter) is supposed to be!
And as for the other Gameplay Shift (ie the “Team Beat ‘Em Up” gameplay)? I was actually going to have some moments like that during the “Normal Career”, usually when the player gets hassled by thugs, arena security, ninjas from Benikage’s clan/agency, etc, with the reveal that - SURPRISE!!! - they’re all on Anesthesia’s payroll. This is mostly to show that Anesthesia isn’t a one-woman operation, and to justify the (admittedly already ridiculous) high stakes “Are you a bad enough chick to beat Lady X, and save the world?!” finale.
I personally think that a Create A Character system would add some longevity overall (although having some MK11-style move customization would be great for the career mode!), but I do agree that more arenas would be welcome, and I hope that the Streetfighting career can unlock multiple arenas, such as a good old fashioned bar brawl at Cobra Rose’s biker clubhouse, a dark, abandoned and overall forboding dojo for the Black Belt Demon, and even the... ahem, “nightclub” that Sista A is performing at.
As for new characters, I admittedly don’t have that many ideas right now, but one I KNOW has to go in is a Take That to Vince/Stephanie McMahon, i.e. the “evil wrestling circuit manager” who’s letting Anesthesia use their tournament as part of her mad science schemes (with their dynamic akin to Dr. Harlan Fontaine and Leland Monroe, with Anesthesia as the Faux Affably Evil Mad Scientist, and the McMahon Expy as the loud-mouth Corrupt Corporate Executive who only wants good money for all the trouble their academic partner is bringing down on their head - only to have a horrified double-take when said partner shows a genuinely murderous side while explaining how they recently “solved” a problem... www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQcJ65… )

It's always fun to dream up possibilities, but I'm pretty sure Rumble Roses never had a top tier budget to create a game with very broad scope and rich depth. We're probably lucky to have gotten as much as we did! But I'll continue to keep the girls alive with my wacky images!

Hence why I basically said it would be my dream game, WITHOUT # FucKonami dragging it down like all of their other franchises (well, dragging it down any lower than XX did, anyways...)
And I do think it wouldn't need that much besides some updates for modernity (perhaps using cell-shaded graphics if photo-realistic graphics are way out of budget), and I actually think even my "full-on street brawl" gameplay shift may not be that far a stretch, considering Tekken 3's Tekken Force mode (www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6eFA7… ), and Tekken 6's... er. "attempt" at the same thing with its Scenario Mode (basically, like the concept, not the execution...)

Many of the girls seem to be transformed or seduced into their heel personae by Anesthesia. I'm not sure if Kamikaze Rose would necessarily follow the same pattern; she was long dead before Anesthesia's Rumble Roses was a thing. But for fantasy gameplay purposes, if there was a playable Kamikaze Rose, she would need an alter ego. I see her somewhat embodying the stubborn pride of the Rising Sun, like an national icon. I don't know what the opposite of that might be, unless it is simply the power corrupted version, a tyrannical empress or wicked warlord.

Beautiful work. Now I see where Reiko and Fujiko get their good looks and skills from.
How I thought that Anesthesia offed her is during her last match, Anesthesia might've added a special kind of poison into her water bottle when no one was looking. With a simple swig from the bottle, KR wouldn't have dealt with the effects of the poison just yet, but once she entered the ring and the match continued, she would've taken some hits that would make the poison activate. Due to the poison literally destroying her from the inside, KR would become more and more exhausted but would've kept going through sheer willpower. However, it would soon be too much for her to take, and she would fall exhausted. She'd be dead before she hit the mat. In the crowd, her daughters would sit there, confused and baffled at what happened to their mother, and in the background, a soft, twisted cackle could be faintly heard.
Apologies for the long comment, but that's how I saw Kamikaze Rose going out since we heard that she ended up dying in the ring throughout the first game.

Thanks. It was cathartic to come up with some visualization of Kamikaze Rose, even if it is mostly based on Lady X, but I think that's fitting. And I don't mind long comments at all! That's a good idea for KR's murder. I'm sure Anesthesia has some undetectable poisons at her disposal. I had imagined in a story a long time ago that Kamikaze Rose had a heart problem and was already pushing her luck anyway. Of course Anesthesia probably exploited it for her own gain. I love how Anesthesia is insanely interwoven into every thread of Rumble Roses.

That's a great theory on her death as well, and I definitely agree. Just like Kamikaze Rose is at the epicenter of Rumble Rose, so too is Anesthesia. Making a massive wrestling tournament to find the strongest female wrestlers in the world and bringing them in one place was an insane trap that she set. Though, whether it succeeded or failed is up to interpretation. I always thought that Fujiko would've broken free from the mind control, hoping to do the same for Reiko and the others. While I would say that she did, the darker side of me thinks that she failed, as Reiko, Dixie, Ms. Spencer, and many others were corrupted and turned into shadows of their past selves. It makes me wonder if there was a time when Anesthesia hadn't completely lost her mind.
I also like the idea that she was obsessed with KR to the point that she wanted to own her. She has made it clear that she likes strong women, and who else to add to her collection than the strongest female wrestler in the world?
However, for a long while, I saw Lady X, not as a robotic duplicate of Kamikaze Rose, but rather as the roboticized corpse of her. While morbid, I thought that it would fit with Anesthesia's twisted design.
Though, after the idea you presented in the description, it brings the idea that she somehow got her hands on KR's corpse after she died, potentially after the surgery at the hospital where her body was taken, hoping to use it to her advantage.

I theorized that Anesthesia did at first intend to simply steal Kamikaze Rose's body and reanimate it, but the problem of keeping the flesh fresh made her abandon the plan in favor of a robot with synthetic flesh but retaining some essence of her personality (mad science is the best!). When it worked too well and Lady X began to gain awareness and realize what (who) she was, she self-destructed to stop Anesthesia's wicked plans.
I think Evil Rose was a disappointment to Anesthesia, too easy to control. That is her constant frustration, of course - once she fully controls her victim, all the fun is gone. So she needs more, more, MOAR! She has high hopes for Reiko, but is likely to find the same old conundrum.
I like to think Miss Spencer was unexpected (since she only came to Rumble Roses chasing after her wayward student), and Anesthesia was surprised and very taken with her. Soon obsessed, Anesthesia gets sidetracked from her Hinomoto plans to possess this exciting new prey.

DreadLockedCipher In reply to fischgeist [2018-02-12 04:06:24 +0000 UTC]
Self-destruct was super effective! I'd imagine that's why she tried to collect more fighters, not just to see her victims constantly struggle for freedom, but also to recreate Lady X as many times as she wished. Nobody would probably notice if some nobodies like a high-school delinquent just up and disappeared. Though, it would be tricky for many of the other contestants, as Aisha, Makoto, and Dixie have large followings and families that would try to look for them. This would mean that Ane would have to work fast, simply putting them through the mind control process quickly. While risky and could end up faltering, it would be cathartic to her in some way, seeing them squirm and struggle for control.
To that conundrum, seeing her victim deal with the internal struggle of keeping in control is like watching her favorite soap opera. However, once they are completely subservient, the show's over, meaning that it's time for a new show to come on the air.
The idea of being obsessed with Ms. Spencer is very interesting. I've always seen Muriel and Anesthesia as being the opposites of each other. While Muriel is kind, compassionate and is very patient (especially with Candy Cane), Anesthesia is cold, calculating, and mainly sees her opponents as test subjects, lab rats, victims that she can pick and prod as much as she pleases. After all, opposites do attract. Just not in the way that Muriel would enjoy at first.

I totally agree about the opposition of Muriel and Anesthesia. Both are flawed mothers, but at least Spencer wants to nurture, even if the line of what is appropriate and what is not is a bit blurred. Anesthesia's natural (and gleeful) tendency to dominate everything must be rubbing off on her new toy. I like that she may find she's not as ready for Mistress as she thought she was.
It's a good point about her attraction to outrageous targets. Anesthesia is batty for sure, and how she thinks she's going to get away with any of her plans boggles the mind. But she's a Bond villain in a miniskirt, and that's why we love her. Always on the razor's edge between ambition and madness. When things go her way, we are entertained; when things do not, we are still entertained!
