Two years after I started talking about it, my comic, Garden Variety, is finally ready to be worked on in full force. The height chart shows the 6 primary characters who inhabit a barren world encased in ice and snow. Their town, Pollendale Flats, USA, is an unusually upbeat place in the otherwise dreary, grey world, and has a lot of mystery and even some danger surrounding it. The very first chapter drops the girls smack-dab into the middle of a Sasquatch hunt, and it only gets weirder from there.

The Cast (from left to right)

Raphael Sativus: Things aren't easy when you've got a radish for a head, but Raphael takes life by the horns and tours the world speaking on cryptozoology, paranormal events, and touting the power of absolute truth above all else. The town of Pollendale may prove to be the mother lode of obscure info that fuels Sativus' wild theories.

Jack: As the AV guy of the group, Jack is solely responsible for recording what the girls find on their excursions. He's also completely smitten with Nopal and tries to act the hero if she's in danger, despite his usual habit of playing it safe.

Nopal Opuntia: Sweet, shy, and deeply religious, this curvy cactus-girl has a heart bigger than her bust. She's completely covered in thorns, so very few people aside from Colette and Jack can interact with her unless she's wearing very thick clothes.

Colette Floret: A devil-may-care heavy metal enthusiast who rushes afro first into every situation. According to Colette, her never-say-die spirit is what makes her this story's main character, a statement that truly baffles her friends and enemies alike.

Lee Floret: Rarely seen without one of her favorite hockey jerseys, Lee is a lean machine who's into parkour, fitness, and environmental protection. An extreme cynic, this country gal ain't nobody's fool and believes only in what she can see.

Ava Carotene: With an exceedingly large vocabulary to accompany her exceedingly large thighs, it's hard to tell which is Ava's strongest weapon. As a high-school language teacher, her ties to both school and city papers generate funding for Sativus' research in Pollendale, allowing the girls to keep making all kinds of esoteric discoveries.
