Description
This one has a story to it. This is in the Highlands of Iceland near the Northern end of the Glacier Mýrdalsjökull near the intersection of F210 and F261. If you have never driven in the Icelandic Highlands then you need to know that it is a rugged landscape where a 4x4 is needed and there are certain obstacles that one must be able to cross in order to continue going forward. one of these obstacles are River Crossings.

Right before this overlook we crossed a rather large river that was very nerve racking and we honestly just pulled off to get our breath and walk around for a while. luckily there was this view. so we shot it and moved on. within a couple miles we hit out next river crossing that we werent so lucky with. this one we got stuck in. we tried digging ourselves out with out pots and pans for about an hr. this was in freezing cold glacial waters and we were very concerned with frostbite. Eventually we gave up and decided to make camp on the rivers edge and go for help in a bit. luckily for us a group of 4 icelandic quads road up on us and set into action a plan to pull us from the river. it was the happiest moment of the whole trip. they got their winches hooked up and started to pull us out. eventually the car was freed.

When the asked us where we had come from we told them and they looked at eachother and asked "How did you cross that other river?" we told them we "just did" there response was a very serious "You should not go back that way."

and so they showed us a different way out. it was an amazing experience. we are sooooo grateful.
