Could be a childhood trauma. Keep in mind that chickens can be rather fierce when they feel threatened. And some breeds are agressive. They actually got rather sharp beaks and claws.
Also do you know how some people say feathered dinosaurs look like giant chickens and are not scary? For Celestia that makes them more scary.
