Description Just a cute n quick picture of a long-eared jerboa!

[The following info is from the msn news page:]

A minuscule desert-dwelling mammal that is dwarfed by its enormous ears has been caught on camera for what scientists believe is the first time.

The long-eared jerboa, which looks like a mouse-sized kangaroo, has until now been extremely difficult to study because of its tiny size, nocturnal nature and the inhospitable terrain it inhabits.

Native to deserts in Mongolia and China, the coy creature – classified as endangered on the IUCN Red List – was photographed by researchers from the Zoological Society of London during a recent trip to the Gobi.

Dr Jonathan Baillie, who led the expedition, said: “The long-eared jerboa is a bit like the Mickey Mouse of the desert: cute and comic in equal measure.

“These creatures hop just like a kangaroo. Little hairs on their feet, almost like snow shoes, allow them to jump along the sand. And in terms of mammals, they have one of the biggest ear-to-body ratios out there.”
