Description Although Antarctic treaty is overall perpetual, some clauses of it would expire in 2048. I do not see into future, but if the wrong people are in power by then, Antarctica might be partitioned to something similar like this and Antarctic treaty might be repealed

I mostly based it on current claims. Australian claims don't overlap with any other claims. I polished current claims of Chile, Argentina and the Falklands (in this timeline, the 2033 independence proposal goes through) and split the marie byrd land between the United States and Russia, which still have a clause allowing them to claim a territory in Antarctica, which is a reason why the rest of the world keeps out of that wedge.

Yeah, that's my idea. The southern polar station would be just too much stupidly split among enforceable claims. I was originally considering it to be a independent country with a the South pole base as its capital and True South flag as its national flag, but that would be far too unrealistic, so I decided to go with a UN territory.

I went for Kolchak because in this timeline, in post-Putin Russia, although authoritarianism is still highly prevalent, the White movement would be probably taught as the "good guys", because currently, Russia under Putin is playing on the "Good old days" card to distance themselves from Boris Yeltsin, who strictly opposed any link with the former USSR. I was originally considering Lazarev, but it didn't for overall the Russia/Union state I envisioned for that scenario

There are many examples of Islands being first, but later forgotten in the wake of new area is the same name. For example Australia was named now Holland and Islands behind them were named new Zealand. Those were originally a pair, but one got abandoned and later forgotten and other name stuck around, although technically being later than the first one. America was originally the name of just the South America, the northern continent was often referred to as Parias or New India, but if you say you're American today, we all picture one thing and it isn't any south American inhabitant
