During 20years of Ulysses's absence (during & after the Troy War), Penelope kept her loyalty for the test of all the requests; her beauty and Ulysses's throne attracted in Ithaca 108 pretenders.
She knew always how to evade their pursuit and embarrass them by new guiles. The main one was declaring to the pretenders that she could not contract a new marriage before having finished a tapestry intended to surround the body of her father-in-law Laërte, when he would come to die. :S
Ingeniously, during three years, her tapestry was never finisehd, because she undid at night what she had made in the daytime...
