I'm Catholic myself. Though I also believe in science. I also think that despite it's flaws, christianity is a good thing

Well, love can't be shaped like a cross... that's the symbol of Christianity and anyone who knows even a little about history knows about all the death, evil, hate and bigotry Christianity has wrought and continues to plague our society with.

Christianity's core message is love ; and, ultimately, love is what we are supposed to take away and apply to our lives. Unfortunately, there are those Christians who miss that point and use God's teachings as a way to be judgemental and hateful; when, if you look at Matthew 7:1-3 and 1 John 3:15 , you'll see that that is the exact opposite of what He wants. It's really sad, honestly.

Actually, Christianity's core message is not love, but threats. The core message of Christianity can be boiled down to five words: "Love me, or burn forever". It's an evil, hateful religion.

Do you feel the same way towards all other religions, too, or just Christianity? The reason why I ask is because I've known people who are just against Christianity, and I've known people who are against religion all-together. (Regardless of what your beliefs are, I'm not going to hate you for them.)
Like I said previously, I have known other Christians that use the teachings of God as an excuse to be hateful towards others, when that is the exact opposite of what we are supposed to do. This includes threatening other people, including other Christians. I don't agree with such practices, at all. If you're going to follow any religion or spirituality, then use it to bring yourself and others up, as opposed to bringing everyone down.

It depends on the religion. To make it short, I detest any religion which has contributed to harming others. This includes all of the Judeo-Christian religions, Vajradhatu Buddhism (which is Buddhism based on the teachings of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Scientology, and the Manson Family. Exclusion of a particular religion from that list does not imply endorsement nor that they haven't harmed anyone. But it is only fair to attack a religion if it does harm people in a certain, irredeemable way. My view on religion is basically to work to strike any religion which is focused on harming others.
If that's the opposite of what you're supposed to do, then why do the teachings in the Bible state that you should do them? The Bible commands putting gay people to death, selling your daughter to her rapist, killing witches or anyone who tries to convince you not to believe in Yahweh. There is a lot in Christianity that encourages evil and the authoritarian slave-morality aspect of Christianity helps to facilitate this.

Ah, okay. That's a (and I mean this extremely literally) interesting viewpoint. Most people that I've met, who detest religion, either are against only Christianity, or are against religion all-together. And, usually, they hold that believe because they do not believe in its deities or other spiritual figures.
I have, also, never heard of Vajradhatu Buddhism. I will have to read up on it later.
Anyway, getting to your question...
I feel like it is important to look at, as well as to understand, Biblical text in the following ways:
Context: Regardless if you use The Bible to justify positive or negative behaviors, there will always be some type of context to it. This not only includes understanding the situational context of the scriptures, but recognizing that Biblical times were different than modern day. I'm not including the last part of that sentence, because I think that you're an idiot - far from it - but I do know that there are Christians who take The Bible literally, and think that every single law can be applied to modern day.
A good example of situational context is seen with 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 (NIV) . A good example of how Biblical laws went along with the respected time period is seen with Leviticus 15:19-24 (NIV).
Language And Translation: The scriptures have been translated, over and over again, to fit different languages, dialects, and reading levels. This practice makes sense; after all, someone who doesn't have the greatest reading comprehension may forego the King James Version and pick up the Easy-To-Read Version instead. However, this has resulted in words being changed to better suit the demographic, making the meaning or the overall tone different.
This isn't the greatest example, but I'll use it since it's fresh in my mind: I was talking with someone, who asked why some people are for keeping killer whales in captivity. I threw out the idea that, perhaps, Christian procaps (or, those who are for captivity) might cite James 3:7 (ERV) as part of their reasoning. However, upon looking at the NLT version of the same verse , I saw that the tone was a completely different one. Saying that you "can tame" animals is different than saying that you "have control" over animals.
Personal Bias: This ties in directly with language and translation. Many Christians hold the belief that The Bible is the direct Word Of God. However, The Bible was written by mankind for God. Mankind has personal biases for just about everything - from small matters to big matters. Therefore, it is entirely possible, particularly due to translation, that mankind has slipped in their own rules into scripture.
None of this stops me from following Christ. It just leaves me with a better, more logical grasp on Biblical text. I know that God loves all of us, and that that is the core message; not just because I know that it's in my spirit, but because every single English translation of John 3:16 says that God loved the world.
