"Who the fuck is Nathan Hale?"
"Wait, what?"
"Nathan Hale. Some revolutionary type, I suspect."
Another sigh. "Why would you think that?"
"Well, we're sitting next to this book called 1776. I think she's giving us a subtle hint."
"She?"
"Our brilliant author." (Note the sarcasm.)
"Oh. Her."
"You know she's writing about this Nathan Hale guy instead of us?"
"She's doing homework. You want her to fail school?"
"I don't want to be ignored!"
"She's not ignoring you. She'll get to you when she's done all that she needs to with Nathan."
"Don't talk like he's a friend of yours!"
An amused smile. "What if he is?"
"He is not! He's some old creepy dead guy!"
"And we're figments of a teenage lesbian's imagination. What else is new?"
"Well, yeah. But at least we're not dead."
"Yet."
"What if we starve while she's off romancing this Nathan kid? What if we die, Dom? I'm too young!"
A third, irritated sigh. "We can't starve; we're fictional. We just sit here doing nothing until she decides to get back to us."
A pout. "Fine. We can just sit here and have nice gay sex while she has her little love affair with Nathan."
A sly smile. "If you want."
