Born out of this silly plot bunny in my head where Aladdin and Mulan are both street rats - with Mulan somehow stumbling upon him soon after being disowned by her family - and the two of them go on awesome street rat adventures which eventually lead them to Genie.

Abu starts off on the wrong foot with Mulan. He snags an apple she stole from the market place which leads to her chasing him down a couple of alleyways, the chase ending when they reach a dead end and both get doused in water from above while playing tug of war to win the apple. Aladdin catches up with the two, followed closely by the guards, and the three involuntarily join forces and narrowly escape arrest. After shaking off the authorities they all take a breather and Al offers to share his bread with Mulan, something Abu is obviously against, before dragging her along to his place. After crossing the 'Great Rooftop Gap', Abu takes a moment to indulge in petty revenge and trips Mulan, causing her to go falling straight into Aladdin's arms.

Oh, Mulan got the apple in the end, and tried giving it to Abu as a peace offering. He denied it, but ended up stealing it from her when she was asleep.

I suppose this answers the 'somehow stumbling upon Aladdin and Abu' question. Too invested in this AU to stop.
