These have been a silent passion project for a long time now and I'm super exited to finally bring them to fruition! There will be an MYO event in November (2021) so it doesn't get caught up in the October halloween species hype. So stay tuned if you are interested!

A Semi-OPEN species

In order to get a design approved it must show the following:
-Land form and mer-form
-A reference without clothing (if they have clothing) to show core and gill placements.
-A clear reference of their hands to show their pawpad
-A clear reference of their eyes

Skerian Sailors, often called Skerians for simplicity, are a semi-aquatic species of the stars. Originating from the planet of Skeria these odd creatures have semi-opaque parts of them that are akin to glass containers of sorts, though all of these areas are very squishy to the touch. Inside these containers (as they’ve come to be called) is a mysterious liquid. This liquid varies in content and coloration from Skerian to Skerian. Some have sparkly liquid, some have metallic liquid, some have bioluminescent liquid, the list goes on! Having lived on a planet that is almost entirely made of water, this species evolved and adapted a mermaid form in order to live life to the fullest. There are very far and few between islands on their home planet meaning most of their civilization is underwater. Overall Skerians are a very curious species, often travelling far from their home planet to explore all over the multiverse! That being said they live in an OPEN universe and can interact with any other species that allow such interactions.

Anatomy

Each Skerian has a few notable features.
Bump nose;Skerian’s noses feature a “bump” nose and two small nostrils. The bump is more evident when looking at a Skerian’s head from the side.
Paws;Skerians have odd hands and feet. Their hands consist of two or three fingers and a thumb, while their feet are just two toes. On each hand and foot there is one very squishy paw pad. They sometimes have more, though uncommon.
Containers;Containers refer to body parts of a Skerian that contain liquid. Each Skerian always has containers on their legs or arms, and a container tail. They can have both container arms legs but at the very least they need one or the other, it varies from each Skerian! It is very hard to break the containers of a Skerian. If broken though it’s not common they heal, meaning the Skerian is likely to soon die. Patching up broken containers is not easy and their liquids are vital to their survival, cracks and leaks are deadly. Strangely enough cracks seem to be common on Abyssals...
Gills and core;On the torso of a Skerian you will see their core and their gills. The gills are on the sides of a Skerian, meaning they can’t really wear tight clothes when going underwater else they won’t be able to breathe! On the chest of a Skerian is their core, the very item of their being. A core is like their heart, and looks like the liquid inside the Skerian though it is not a container itself! Gills can vary in style as long as they read as gills, and there must be at least one pair on the torso. They cannot be anywhere else.
Tail;Arguably the most important and defining aspect of a Skerian, their tails are the largest container on their body, and what their bottom half morphs into when in mer-form! Tails get a lot bigger in mer-form, and some also change appearance slightly.
Gender and sexuality;Skerians have the same typical differences between males and females, just like humans do. Gender is very broad in Skerian society, and each Skerian is free to identify and present how they feel. Sexuality is equally broad, and polygamy is a common and accepted thing in Skerian societies. (You are free to have your Skerian identify whichever way you want, but we do not tolerate things such as Super Straight)
Form;Skerians have a humanoid, two legged form. Though their leg anatomy is very unique, and can differ vastly from Skerian to Skerian! Skerians can have normal human legs, digitigrade legs, legs with an extra joint, essentially as long at it’s two legs with a human form and not too outlandish it’s possible! There’s also the rumored and famed taur Skerians. Taur formed Skerians are generally few and far between, and are often upheld as beings of legends. These Skerians can have two different gill placements, or have two sets of gills.
Skills and magic;Skerians all have one type of magic or ability, given it’s not something overpowered (ex. Growing to be 50 feet tall, ability to stop time all over the world, create life, etc.) at their disposal. It is something they are born with and considered a blessing. It cannot be changed nor removed, though rumor has it that Abyssals have found a way that proves otherwise...

About Abyssals
Abyssals are an odd (sort of) subspecies of Skerians, all coming from the deepest depths of the seas and often living down there all their life. Abyssals don’t often get along with the rest of Skerian society, though it’s not impossible for Abyssals to get along with the rest of Skerians. Abyssals have traits that are often considered creepy or even unnatural due to their looks. It’s believed the reason Abyssal’s traits are so odd is how deep down they reside, underneath lots of pressure from the ocean. Abyssals are the only ones known to be able to swim so deep underwater due to the pressure, it’s very rare for a non Abyssal Skerian to be able to swim to the depths of the Abyssal society. Some Abyssals live in normal Skerian society though! In terms of lifestyle Abyssals aren’t all too different. They are however a bit more hardened and cold. Living so deep exposes you to many more dangers, making many Abyssals hard to the core and afraid of very little.
Hybrids and crossbreeding
Skerians have interesting anatomy, allowing them to breed and have children with many other species. This is due to their magic in their core, and due to such the offspring carry many Skerian traits. Children of Skerian crossbreeding almost always carry the liquid of their Skerian parent, but sometimes a recessive gene may change that. These children always have container arms and legs and a container tail, though this tail may be different than the aquatic ones usually seen in skerians. They also always have a core on their chest. Otherwise container placements may vary vastly, and can be different than ones shown on the trait sheet. Skerians can crossbreed with other original species on DeviantArt so long as you have permission from that species, and an appropriate MYO slot for both species.
