Description
Left at the doorstep of the Chapel of Saint Ennodia, Cassus Reyes never knew life outside of the church until adulthood. A gentle and kind soul, Cass was right at home within the healing halls of the chapel. He spent every free moment with his nose in a book, and hoped to one day join the church scholars of the Grand Cathedral in Twin Herald.

Mortally wounded during a demonic attack on the Chapel of Saint Ennodia, Cassus heard the whispers of the black speech. A lesser demon found a new soul, brimming with the light of life that could sustain it. Ishmaret offered to save Cass from death and help him save his fellow healers, but at the cost of bonding to his soul. What other choice did he have?

Though outcast from the church, Cassus still follows his faith. He joined others like him, people on the fringe who want to help those discarded and forgotten by society. However, he must maintain a balance between appeasing his demon patron and holding onto his soul.

This piece is the second part of a triptych of my main characters for my comic, In the Shadows of the Ancients, and it was created utilizing Procreate and Manga Studio 5. My timing was fortuitous on this one as it coincides with this month's contest over at SharpenedEdge and this is my entry.
