That's true.  This old one is in a pretty isolated spot and it doesn't get many visitors.  But I think he appreciates the people who make the trip to see him. though.

Sadly, the M198 is headed out too. Replaced by the M777.

The M777 is a good gun, lightweight and easy to move.  Sort of like the modern version of a "pack howitzer."  Very accurate too.  My former employer was the company that manufactures the M777. (along with the Bradley and the M109, and lots of other things.  BAE Systems is a good company and I wish I was still with them.

The USMC EFSS does the "pack howitzer" role now. 120mm mortar... Nice piece of artillery/infantry gear. To be honest, it blurs the line between the two, IMHO.
