This is The Bitter End, a small 24-hour coffeeshop that's out by my house. (So small, in fact, that the one time I tried to patronize it, there wasn't one seat left for me. I don't like coffee, so it was no great loss.) Took the picture out on a walk-- which was basically a chance to use my new tripod (Manfrotto Classic... solid as a rock!) for something.

The upside: This came out spectacularily, pretty much straight off the camera. The only modification was cropping out about 1/8 too much road on the bottom.

The downside: Okay, note to self and others. Before you go out for a casual stroll-and-photog, especially in the sub-freezing weather, here's a tip: CHECK YOUR SETTINGS BEFORE YOU LEAVE! Yeah... I'd wondered why my shots were coming out with such high shutter speeds. Could it be, perhaps, that I had the ISO cranked up from the last time I used it? Yeah, grain city, and I only realized it when I got home and dumped the pics. This one had enough of an artistic, painterly feel to the overall photo that the grain seemed to work better with it. Still, if I'm out that way again, I'm really considering retaking the photo. Still, though, these things never seem to work out quite as well when you're trying to recreate them.
