Description One of the suggestions I got from the journal ->ย Tutorial Suggestions?

I thought this was a good idea for a self study as well- I actually tried this one on one of the cubes but I failed and they turned into a bubble like texture

I'm quite happy with how this turned out in comparison, it can still use some improvement but it actually resembles scales XD

Hope it can be helpful for you guys as well ;D

Thank you so much for making this! Iโ€™ve been wanting to branch out and try drawing new things (one of them being dragons!) and Iโ€™m so excited (and a little scared) to put my own take on scales!

Oh ik ben dol op puns! Ik maak enorm veel wordgrappen, op instagram en facebook zijn pagina's zoals evert kwok, kakhiel, jezus wat slecht en ladderzat die veel leuke woordgrappen maken. Vooral ladderzat is goed!

beza [2019-06-05 01:35:06 +0000 UTC]

I don't think I've ever seen a color dodge layer used before. Neat.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

FleshQB In reply to beza [2019-06-05 08:14:49 +0000 UTC]

I usually use the overlay layer for lighting as the colour dodge layer is really bright and can blind(?) the image. It's great for highlights though and that's perfect for this ^^

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

beza In reply to FleshQB [2019-06-07 02:46:52 +0000 UTC]

I am totally going to experiment with this.
(note to self; does not work over lineart ).

rosedragoness [2019-06-05 01:24:05 +0000 UTC]

I'm usually do it in lazier way. I draw a few scales and copy paste them, then use the warp tool to distribute them. Then I add shadow and highlights on diff layers.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

FleshQB In reply to rosedragoness [2019-06-05 08:13:33 +0000 UTC]

To be fair, I did that as well with some of the smaller scales xD

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

rosedragoness In reply to FleshQB [2019-06-05 09:40:31 +0000 UTC]

haha yeah, small scales doesn't worth the effort of doing them one by one :] . Today I am going to do your method thought. Thanks for the tut.
