Description "In the early days of the Elven Empire twins were born to the Imperial Family. The elder twin was born with deep, dark skin, like the cursed Drow, and so he was given a name of ill-omen and banished to the shadows. The younger twin was born as bright as shining mythril and so was given the name Silverglory, in the hopes that his light would dispel the bad luck his brother's birth had brought.

Alas, the bad luck lingered and tragedy struck the Imperial Line, so it came to be that young Silverglory, while still a boy, would take the throne. His rule was just and good and brought fortune to the Empire, until tragedy came to take him too, when not yet even a man, and he was cast by curse into a sleep like death.

But his light was too bright to be dimmed and it came to pass that in the hour of the Empire's greatest need, when it toppled on the verge of being destroyed, swept away by its enemies so completely that it would cease to exist even in memory, that Silverglory would awaken and take the Throne once more. He restored peace and harmony once again but, to the wonder of all, announced that he would not continue to rule but instead return to his sleep so that he could awaken when the Empire needed him again."

. . .

Silverglory is the god-emperor of the Elven Empire, probably the second-most important figure in their religion of ancestor worship after the Elven Realms herself. He's usually far more impressive than this but the time-frame for this picture is back when he was still mortal, just after he became Emperor, so he's still rather dinky and wee at this point.

Every new Emperor or Empress who's followed him knows two things; the first is the throne is theirs only for as long as they rule well. The second is that their Wraiths, the shadow warriors who serve as the Empires spies and assassins, do not truly serve them, they serve Silverglory.

In the centre of the Elven Imperial Palace, which itself is the size of a city, stands a forest. In the centre of the forest stands another palace, which no one ever enters or leaves but the shadows.

Everyone knows that the Palace is Silverglory's, though no one's ever been inside. From any window of the Imperial Chambers you can see it, just barely, through the leaves of the trees. It's a constant reminder that, while he may always be there to rescue you from your mistakes, the only fate for a Ruler who forces him to waken is abdication at best and, at worst, a Wraith with a knife in the night-time.

Not unexpectedly there have been attempts to kill the divine child-emperor but even the best warriors and mages, capable of fighting their way past the Wraiths, have always fallen at the end. Stormcrow may have been banished but he was never banished very far and he takes a dim view of anyone who'd try to hurt his brother.

The Wraiths may serve Silverglory but it's Stormcrow who's their patron god.
