That suit was given to her by the Chozo that raised her so destroying it is really out of character for her.
It's one of a kind too.
Good comic series though.

She didn´t destroy it, the FPT used the hand cannon to make the suit self destruct, so Samus didn´t had the choice but to trow it away (the page its a little confusing, but thats me to blame)
