Happy Place

Staci: Okay calm down, breathe (she starts to hyperventilate and then clutches her throat)…breathe….I can't breathe. (Looks at her hands and notices their placement. Shakes it off.) They're going to hate me, I just now it. Who wants to pay $7 to see a whole line-up of amateur poets perform original pieces? I can only perform when I'm in my room alone with a quiet surrounding.(Closes eyes) It's like the theater becomes my own personal black box except the walls are white. The audience in my head scream "Entertainment! Provide us with talent!" They throw tomatoes and even apples towards me but a shield covers me and the fruit hit the wall. Usually I'd be frightened by this, but today I feel like a huge power surge of confidence has shocked my system, and I've become a product of electricity. (Opens eyes) I can't stop shaking (looks at trembling hand).My hands are trembling, my teeth chattering, and my nails won't stop drumming (stops drumming her nails on the table and holds it to her mouth). Why did I decide to perform this piece I wrote this six years ago when I was fifteen. Back when (closes eyes again) the trees seemed to reflect the love I thought I was in and the birds chirped the song of my heart. I seem to always fall for those Romeo and Juliet romances. But they always leave me with lot's of poetry to write down.
