Description
A gel pen and ink doodle I'm working on at the moment, not really sure where to go with it from here so taking a little break from it and submitting it as it is for the time being. The colours really havn't come out right, but this'll do for now.* Have submitted another image, the colours in this one are a bit better - though still not perfect *

Oooooooh this is simply dripping with wonderful shapes. It reminds me of those images in science books of the muscles and tissue on the human body.... Er that's meant in a good way not a bad way!
I really like the fact that the majority of the page has been left white and the design, patterns and colour are concentrated in just one area of the image, that works really nicely

Thank you, thats a really interesting way of describing it... I love being told what people see in my work because everyone sees such different things. The finished piece won't have as much white as I'm still working on it at the moment, but I definitely will be leaving some white... Thanks for the comment

Will you upload it seperately and keep this one on DA? I hope so, I'm sure the updated version will be amazing but sometimes mid-process images can have a character all their own

Yes probably, but if I really prefer the finished version I may put this one into scraps at a later date. But I see what you mean about unfinished pieces having a character of their own, so maybe i will keep it... we'll see!

Thank you, yes the 3D effect is one of the ways in which my work has naturally evolved recently, and i'd like to maybe explore it a bit more in future drawings. Thanks for the nice comment

i don't think the white background helps the brightness of the colours...a darker colour as the background maybe, or if you did a similar styled doodle in the bottom left, only using darker colours?
might help accent the fluorescent colours...or maybe just a thicker black outline?
it looks good as it is though...ahh damned if you do and damned if you don't

Thanks, someone else actually suggested using darker colours at the bottom (someone who's seen the real thing with the proper colours) so am seriously considering that. It definitely would bring out the brightness of the colours...

Nice mix of colours and shapes!
If you don't have any idea how to continue might I suggest that you turn the paper 90° or so and paint a new picture underneath with totally different colours (or different shades of 1 colour)! (has helped me sometimes)
Well, of course every artist makes his/her own decisions about their pictures... but well, just a suggestion!

Thats an interesting idea, I can see how it would bring out a totally new style. I think I will actually try that one day - but not on this one, as it is a present for my gran, and I don't think she will appreciate if it is too 'strange/psychedelic' - which is how I think it would turn out. I love that kind of look though, so will probably give it a try on my next doodle! Thanks for the idea

maybe pick just a solid color as the background and leave it how it is.
it sucks that the scan blurred it, though.

Thank you. Yes I was considering filling in the background with black ink, as the colours are very bright - some of them fluorescent (although this doesn't reslly show in the picture) - and so the pattern would stand out a lot. Still, I would like to add a little bit more to it before I do that - the composition doesn't feel quite right yet.
It's actually a photo, not a scan. I tried both but the colours were even worse in the scan. Don't know why I'm having so much trouble with this piece - maybe the colours of the gel pens I'm using just don't come out right on a computer screen...

nonetheless, its a beautiful design, and its gona be hard to go wrong with it.
