Strangely, "kokkoo" doesn't seem to translate at all, though.

It is a dialect word.
Kokkoo = kokoa = put up/build
kokko = bonfire
If you wish to read a book in Finnish, I reccomend the translation of Harry Potter. It's really simple.

Congrats! Now if you get this and then do it with other words (correct words), I say you're already pretty good in Finnish:
The spruce is on fire = kuusi palaa
The spruce returns = kuusi palaa

Six of them are on fire = kuusi palaa
Six of them return = kuusi palaa
Your moon is on fire = kuusi palaa
