Younger Fili and Kili~I imagine Balin would fit perfectly in the role of being their teacher, telling the young ones about the history of their folk and teaching them in the old dwarven language and writings.
I'm sure poor Kili would pretty fast be bored of sitting around and listening for so long and fall asleep on his brother's shoulder. XD
Well, Fili and Balin seem not very amused.
