Please note that this fan fiction isn't mine. I got this from fanfiction.net from an author named Lightning Farron. I have permission to edit and repost the story but I will once again say that this is not my story, it is Lightning Farron's from fanfiction.net. I'm posting it because they do not have a deviantart account. Without further ado, please enjoy Sisterly Love. Also, neither the original author, nor I, own any part of Final Fantasy, even though we might want to. I'd be so happy and so rich but the games would all suck
Sisterly Love Chapter 5: Demons
The next morning came quickly for Lightning, Serah's squirming and the smell of beacon waking her up. She slowly opened her eyes to see Snow sitting by the fire, hunched over a pan making the offendingly delicious food. Go figure the first thing I see him doing is eating, that's about all he does, Lightning thought as she picked up Serah. Being careful not to wake her, she carried her to the tent she had woken in earlier, picking her path so that she wouldn't alert Snow. As she entered the tent, she found Fang laying on her back in the middle of the tent with one arm slung over her eyes.
"Watch what you say, his Fiancée is in the room." Lightning joked, her voice hoarse. Fang looked up, surprised at the new voice.
"Well look who's up. I saw you by the tree and I gotta say, the scene warmed my heart." Fang said warmly, watching Lightning move farther into the tent and gently lay Serah on the ground.
"They did a number on you, didn't they?" Fang said softly, noting how Lightning was walking with a slight limp, as well as the state of her voice.
"Heh...well, there wasn't a whole lot I could do to stop them, though I did manage a jailbreak." Lightning rasped, attempting to smile but quickly abandoning the idea when the simple act hurt her abused throat.
"A jailbreak which nearly got you killed." Fang stated as she walked toward Lightning, wrapping her arms around her in a gentle hug. Lightning froze for a moment before returning the gesture. The two of them stood like that for what felt like forever, each of them savoring the feeling for different reasons. Fang was just glad that her comrade, no, her friend, was alive and relatively well. Lightning, on the other hand, was glad that she could spend time like this with friends, not worrying about the rest of the world, for now at least. Eventually they broke apart.
"What do you mean?" Lightning asked.
"If it wasn't for her you would be six feet under right now with all of us mourning over your grave." Fang said, glancing down at Serah.
"I guess so." Lightning said with a small smile. She motioned toward the tent opening, wanting to let her sister sleep in peace. The two of them left the tent, Lightning heading off towards the fire, sitting on one of the logs.
"Oh, hey, look whose up!" Snow said, noticing for the first time that Lightning wasn't asleep by the tree anymore.
"Yeah and look who's eating." She retorted, watching as he cringed when he heard her voice. "Is it really that bad?"
"Yeah do you need some water or something? It sounds like it hurts." Snow asked.
"No I'm fine." Lightning responded, wrapping her arms around herself as the chilly air sent a shiver down her spine. As she sat looking into the fire she wished she had something other than her skirt and turtleneck from the night before. Feeling an added weight on her shoulders, she turned to see Sazh laying his jacket over her
"Thanks Sazh." she said, giving him a small smile as he sat down next to her and threw an arm over her shoulders.
"You're very welcome, and its great to see you awake." he responded, the huge smile plastered on his face brightening the air around him.
"You're in a very good mood. The Rams won?" Lightning guessed, gaining a vigorous nod from Sazh.
"Well, thanks."Lightning told him as Serah bounded happily out of the tent. Stopping in front of Lightning, she kneeled down with a manic grin on her face, their noses a few inches apart.
"I told you." she said, waiting for her sisters reaction, though it wasn't the one she was expecting.
"Serah, what the hell are you talking about?" Lightning asked, having a feeling she knew what Serah was talking about. Opening her mouth, Serah was about to protest but shut it before squinting at her sister.
"So I think we should get moving." Lightning said to the group as they all settled down to eat the food that Snow had made.
"We can't. Its too early, plus Vanille's not even up yet!" Snow stated as a drowsy Vanille appeared.
"Well, well, look at the two lovebirds!" Vanille teased. Lightning blushed and chucked a piece of firewood in her direction. Dodging it, Vanille ran up and hugged Lightning.
"Welcome back." She said softly as Lightning hugged back. As everyone ate, Lightning went and retrieved her vest from the tent. Pulling it on as she went, she headed back to the fire and waited patiently for everyone to finish. One by one they finished, packed up their things, and headed back through the forest toward their van.
"Shit!" Lightning said under her breath when she saw soldiers searching the van for any sign of them.
"Guys go back." she whispered as the soldiers got closer to their hiding spot. She was about to follow when one of the soldiers spotted her bright pink hair from among the green leaves of the woods.
"You there freeze and come out slowly." He instructed. Lightning was moving forward when Serah caught her wrist, causing her to turn around.
"Don't go." She pleaded, Lightning's eyes softened as she gave her a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry Serah, I can handle them. I'll be back in a second." Lightning tried to assure her.
Serah shook her head, "Then I'm staying here." Lightning gave a defeated nod as Serah crouched behind a bush. Stepping out of the woods, Lightning was met with several guns in her face.
"Easy boys." Lightning said, raising her hands as one of the guards stepped forward and grabbed her right wrist. Working purely on instinct, Lightning kneed him in the gut and executed a spin kick, hitting him in the side of the head, knocking him to the ground. Using her momentum, she continued with a front flip high in the air taking out her Blaze Edge in gun mode and filling a couple soldiers with of lead. Lightning gracefully landed and switched her Blaze Edge to sword mode and cut down all but one of the remaining soldiers.
Turning to take out the final soldier, Lightning was taken off guard when he managed to disarm her. But before he could bring his sword down on her, Lightning rolled to the side and sweeped his legs out from under him, then used the sweep to quickly get to her feet and retrieve her sword, ending her brawl by plunging her sword into the hapless soldier's heart. "Let's go," she said quickly as she ran towards Serah's hiding place.
"There you two are what happened?" Fang asked, concern making its way into her voice.
"As we were leaving one of the soldiers saw my hair." Lightning told her with a shrug, Snow chuckling nearby.
"Okay where do we go from here?" Sazh asked, rubbing his chin in thought.
"Well the van is pretty much useless. They'll be looking for it...but there is a airplane hangar near here. We could steal one and get away in it...that is assuming Sazh can fly it." Lightning said.
"Yeah piece of cake!" Sazh said smiling. They headed in the direction of the hangar, all the while Sazh insisted on telling them about the Rams game and how he wished he was there to see it.
They arrived at the wall surrounding the runway. "Is this military property?" Vanille asked, Lightning giving a slight nod before snapping her fingers, activating her gravity field, and jumping over the large wall. Seconds later the door opened letting the others onto the runway and she led them behind a giant loading crate and peaked around it.
"Looks like theres only three guards around the plane." Lightning stated as she turned to Fang, "You take the one on the right, I'll get the left, and Vanille you get the one out front." Lightning ordered.
Lightning and Fang snuck around the end of the crate and made their way over to the unoccupied plane. Once they were in place, Lightning gave Vanille a signal and a second later she shot an arrow at the front guard, embedding it in his skull, distracting the other guards long enough for Lightning and Fang to take them out. While Lightning and Fang dealt with the bodies, the rest of the group got on the plane. On their way back to the plane, something caught her eye that caused a lump to form in her throat.
"Fang..." She choked out. About to chastise Lightning for taking too long, her retort died on her tongue as she saw what had caused the hold up. Jihl Nabaat and Yaag Rosch were arguing about something, though it looked like Jihl was winning the argument, if the angry expression and flailing arms were anything to go off of.
"Shit, let's go Light." Fang said, placing a hand on the younger girls shoulder, Lightning nodded and headed off onto the plane. As soon as they were on board Sazh started up the plane and took off. Lightning took a seat beside Serah who was sitting with Snow and was somewhat surprised at the unusual silence. "You two OK?"
"Nothing just kind of nervous." Serah said. Lightning was about to press it when Fang came over with a bag of ice.
"Here, icing that leg may help get rid of that limp you seem to have developed," she said, handing Lightning the bag of ice. Taking the bag, Lightning offered a thanks and placed it on her upper thigh. As the events of the past few days caught up with her, a wave of fatigue washed over her. Lightning wearily closed her eyes, only intending to rest them, but quickly fell asleep. Almost immediately she began to dream. It was one of those odd dreams that no one can explain, of a black charred forest crawling with giant spiders.
After wandering through this dead forest for a while, a demonic voice snarled at her. "What the hell are you doing?! You're wasting valuable time!" Lightning's eyes shot open and she sat up breathing heavily. She looked at her violently shaking hands and tried to calm herself down, but no matter how hard she tried, the shaking wouldn't stop.
"Lightning, are you okay?" Serah's concerned voice came from beside her, making her jump as she turned to face the imagined threat.
"Y-yeah I'm f-fine." Lightning lied, trying to reassure her sister. She stood up, intending on hiding in the washroom till she had collected her thoughts, passing by a sleeping Vanille who was drooling on her arm.
"Mmmmph!" As soon as Lightning shut and locked the door a leather clad hand was roughly clamped over her mouth.
"Hello dear." An all to familiar voice rang in her ear. Lightning struggled to get free as Jihl spoke. "Thought you could escape me that easily? Well, I'll have to disipline you then, teach you a bit of a lesson."
"I guess I'll start with the lives of your friends and your dear little sister. Then maybe some torture. I missed my chance back in Eden but not this time."
"Mmmph!" Lightning continued to struggle but Jihl had an iron grip on her and she couldn't break free.
"Stay still," she hissed, tightening her grip."Now punishment number one - the death of your closest friends and only family begins in..."
And with that Jihl held out a switch and pressed it, lighting up the button under her thumb. Lightning's eyes widened in disbelief as she listened to the explosions rock the plane.
