Information: Name: Nahla [ “first drink of water” in Arabic ]
Gender: Female
Species: Anilim [ lyrebird + cuttlefish + gecko ]
Age: 35
Height: 155cm // 5ft1
Insignia: Palm of right hand
Weapon: Tentacles + Her ability
Abilities: Physical Abilities:
Sound Imitation:
Adapted from the traits of a lyrebird, she is able to mimic sounds that she has heard. This ability requires her to have practiced the sound out loud at least 3 times before properly mimicking it. Not useful for when she needs to mimic a sound she hasn’t heard before on the spot.
Camouflage:
Adapted from the cuttlefish. Her skin and hair is made from the same cells as the cuttlefish. Allowing her to reflect and imitate her own surroundings, creating an illusionary camouflage. This is helpful for when she is dispatched on a stealth mission. She has a limit though, on how many times she can change colours in a short period of time. She can do this around 3 times every half an hour.
Wall-Climbing:
Adapted from the gecko. The palms of her hands and her gecko-like feet have tiny hairs that help her stick onto all kinds of surfaces.
Strengths & Weaknesses:
Her physical attributes aid her well in stealth missions. Having used them for most of her life, she has gained decent stamina from it, allowing her to be agile for a lengthened period of time. Being the gatherer of her tribe, she does lack in the strength department, which she makes up for with her knowledge in flora and fauna, in addition to her her speed.
Elemental Abilities:
Water as a form of weapon. Due to her physical weaknesses, she cannot fight close battles for long periods of time, however she can support by inflicting damage from the backlines by manipulating the water, preferably from bodies of water or in the air, into weapons or tools to be used. The bigger the tool is or the longer her elemental ability is being used, the more taxing it is. She usually goes with throwing knives as they are small and effective range and strength wise. Her weakness in elemental abilities is that she is limited by the climate that she is in. This means that in dryer surroundings, she would have less effective weapons, sometimes even none.
Backstory:
On Altreya:
Before she was Nahla, Llyecko (Ley-ko) was born into a family of healers of a wandering tribe called Alma. The Almans were known to roam the continent, fending for themselves in the wild and going to communities to replenish materials they need. Being the daughter of the healers, she was taught from a young age to identity different floral and fauna for medicinal and culinary needs. Being the curious and knowledge-seeking child that she was, it was easy for her to remember. Nahla started her gatherer training during her adolescent years, when her animal forms were starting to reveal themselves. It was during this age when she was also taught how to use her abilities to their fullest. The chief of the tribe, having seen how her abilities can be useful, also assigned her the role of support for the hunters. The hunters had also taught her which strategies were useful for back attacking. Or at least, these uncles had tried to. Most of her lectures from the hunters ended up being anecdotal life lessons for her. Not that she minded. Maybe a little bit for when they started repeating themselves. Then, Nahla would walk away, observing her surroundings and gathering herbs for her family.
Nahla’s family, along with most of the Almans, believed that water was the strongest element there is. She was taught while water gives life, it also takes away life. She is also taught that water is ever-changing, and that she should be flexible like water, and also kind but fierce. To young Nahla, it seemed nonsense and went on with her life but as she grew older and started to take on responsibilities for her tribe, she slowly learned the lesson behind those beliefs and sayings. Be flexible and ever-changing, learn from people and excel even further beyond. Like most of the tribe, she was chosen by the water element in her late teens. That was when her new identity, Nahla was born. With her newly attained water abilities, she worked even hard to train and service her tribe.
During the days when her tribe would park beside another community of Anilims, Nahla would go and talk to almost everyone else from the other tribe. Being with the same people and hearing the same stories quickly bored her, so that was her favourite thing to do. Occasionally, she would meet a traveller from other worlds or a whole other part of her home planet that she did not know of. Stories and knowledge from such people cost the most but she wouldn’t mind doing a chore or two for them in exchange for the valuable knowledge that they carry. It was from these travellers she learned about the Stain and the Lumastra base.
Joining the cause:Hearing about the disease and the cause gave Nahla conflicting feelings. On one hand, she is eager to go and join the cause, helping them to find the origins of such a dreadful disease, so she can protect the planet that she loves. On the other hand, she felt like it was her duty to stay and service her home. Her parents noticed their usually cheerful and cheeky daughter going silent for days worried them. After a long talk about what she has heard from the travellers that they have met, Nahla sighed and felt relieved but still defeated as no conclusion was met yet. To her surprise, her parents smiled and urged her to go, feeding into her want to join the cause. They believed that Nahla was talented enough and that they would be proud to have their daughter join such a noble cause. They were also not too worried as they believed her expertise in plants and medicine should be able to keep her safe. They also believed that it would aid the cause. That same night, Nahla left on her own in search for the Lumastra base.
Several months of fending for herself passed. Everyday Nahla never forgot the training she had received throughout her years of being a part of the Almans. She strived and pulled through until she arrived at the base, mostly through word of mouth and a map she had gotten from one of the communities she had passed by on her journey. The hardest part was over, she thought, but as she was recruited into the cause, the training was even worse than the solo-journey she had just experienced. She may be talented but she had never been trained to be fighting at the frontlines. Her suffering was eased by the lessons that was also taught during the training. Nahla looked forward to meeting everyone that wasn’t like her, and to facing even more hardships when missions are assigned to her.
Personality: Curious | Observant | Independent | Responsible | Cheeky | Mischievous | Impulsive
Nahla is like a secret garden, full of life and thriving on her own ecosystem. Growing up part of a wandering tribe, she has seen and heard of many things from different townspeople and travellers. Her curiosity grows as she knows of the many worlds she has not yet visited. Although she has a bountiful knowledge, she is humbled by her position in her tribe, a gathering and support hunter. She is well-aware of her position in her tribe, their safety is partially in her hands when she is on duty. This has taught her to understand responsibility and be disciplined whenever she needs to be. However, that is only limited to serious situations as during her off hours, she likes to mess around with friends, playing pranks on them as well as telling them the stories of those she has talked to. She is also known to wander off on her own to explore whenever she has free time.
