Description UPDATE: Quarky passed away peacefully at the end of September 2017. He lived a good birdie life. We're all really gonna miss this sleepy, cranky old man.

Last month, my grandpa gave my family his elderly cockatiel, Quarky. Seriously, he's at least thirty (he was found abandoned a really long time ago). When he was found, his right foot was paralyzed, and no one really knows why. Regardless, he's a pretty happy bird. He enjoys eating, sleeping, and listening to music. He can't fly or sing, though.

And here's some more pictures and videos of Quarky: sta.sh/2t7rlaq1v66

He looks like he disapproves of the type of camera/phone you have

I am glad this bird has a good family to live with!  I have cockatiels at home!  Two of them and they are brothers, they been with me ever since I was two so they are about 15-16 years old.  They were suppose to be a gift to someone's wife, but someone in their family were arrested and the wife left.  The cockatiels are now happy and they are always singing in the morning!

D'aaww, I love his name :3 Quarky~
Sad that he was abandoned way back when... ;w; Make sure to make a bunch of memories with him.
(By the way, I've seen your journal entry about your grandpa but never got around to reading the full thing (I will in a sec), but I'm sorry about the lost and I hope you're doing better now ^^)

My grandpa named him that because he was the smallest animal he's ever rescued (he took in a lot of stray animals). :3

I take pictures and videos of the bird every single day. Sadly, he doesn't really like being handled.

Thank you so much. Things still aren't easy, but I feel better knowing he's not suffering anymore.

D'aaww, your grandpa sounded like a lovely and caring person... :3 That's something I hope to do when I get older and have more independence--rescue strays or adopt the older animals from shelters.  I want to help animals as much as possible. ^^ That actually reminds me of this book I read during spring break earlier this year, which was a true story about how this guy and his wife constantly adopt dogs, particularly big and old ones from shelters, and their lives are shaped by having over dozens of dogs with them at a time. They've done this for I don't even know how many years now... It's time- and money-consuming, unusual, but a breathtaking feat.
So bleh, long story short, your grandpa sounds like a great guy. ^^

Stay strong!!

It's called "Lessons from Tara" by David Rosenfelt
It has both funny moments and just fantastic, fantastic life lessons from Rosenfelt's experiences with shelter dogs.
It's a great read; I'd strongly recommend it. ^^
