I was watching a 'how to draw hair' tutorial. It looked so easy and smooth in the video... and I was fighting and getting angry with the stylus and all the brushes i had...
i hated it, hehe xD

This is what I do when drawing hair though...I usually sketch and outline on different layers so I can resize or fix it without disturbing the rest of the lineart or sketch (I always draw the hair last) if that makes sense? I also draw it in a different colour like red or blue.

I use to draw hair at last, however i've always had the problem with proportions so now i work the head shape and hair at the same time (even better, the shape of heads in my style looks like the alien so i always ended laughing so hard because the goofy way it looks without hair xD)...however i never tried to use different colors in the sketch... i dunno know really why... maybe i'm just a lazy human being, hehe... i'll give a try with that

Then the color part... damn i really hate that part xD specially the lighting work and detailing e.e that's why i only use soft shades... or at least i try hehe

It took me forever to get used to drawing hair. And faces are such a pain sometimes XD

I use a mixture of soft and cel shading in my art. I'm also trying to make my lines a bit thinner too XD

May I ask what program you use to draw? For me it's Clip Studio Paint/Manga Studio 5

Sometimes i have issues drawing faces too... specially giving expressions to a character D: it's amazing how just a single line can change a lot in a face..

I've been using my old and trusty (not) friend called Photoshop CS6 since it was launched like... 6 years ago i think? (Win 7, Ps CS6... i really need to upgrade my software xD..)

I have issues with drawing longer, more mature looking faces. As well as different angles, which I'm trying to work on. And def different body types as well. I want to make a webcomic, but it would be uninteresting if every character had the same body type and face. XD

Yeah. Some characters look better if you use more straight and sharp lines in their face, while others look better if more curved and softer lines are used. But other times you can use a mix of the two. 

Oh yes, Photoshop XD I had it on my old computer. There was a time I could actually draw without using a stabilizer XD 

I want Clip Studio Paint EX because it has more features, but it's 250 dollars, which isn't bad but...still XD

Here between you and me, i use the same head shape in all my drawings... but that's a secret, hehe.. xD

I let in pause some kind of comic that i really want to do, at first it was supposed to be an animation but... yeah... xD i'm in the same boat as you with all you said. Actually i submitted the main character in my gallery, the piece is called 'Meet Ellie' and i think that was the first drawing with my current style

Perspective is something that i really need to improve... i need to see different references to draw certain poses and accessories. I recently finished a commission of a female elf in some kind of medieval armour aaaand i saw my life passed in front of my eyes with that, hehe... it doesn't look that difficult but damn it really cost me time and some hair xD 

Huh... I think i have never tried Clip Studio... how is it? (my PS CS6 is a portable version so it has its glitches and issues xD)

Oh I am so bad for that! It's a habit that is VERY difficult to break unfortunately XD 

You can draw backgrounds, too. I struggle with those. 

I just wanna create a diverse cast of characters-of different races, body-types, etc. For webcomics and stories, it's probably better to start small, with a shorter story and only a few characters, especially if you're creating one for the first time XD 

I always struggled with perspective. Fortunately for artists, the internet is full of tutorials XD I have a friend who is VERY good at perspective and landscape painting, but doesn't sell their paintings or do commission work. It's a shame, too, because their art is very nice and is done on large, expensive canvases and they spend SO much time on each painting.

It is good. It's only $50 for pro, but it doesn't have as many features as photoshop (i think...?). It's a program marketed as a comic/manga creation tool, but I use it for illustration of course XD It has pre-made panels, screen tone, speech bubbles, effects, and all that fun stuff XD I really like it haha I've been using it for a few years now. I wanna update to EX though...it looks much nicer XD

Uhmm... I don't know about backgrounds xD the problem is that i have a very poor imagination for that and at the same time i try to do complex stuff, for example here's a background that i just improved 3 months later after I uploaded the drawing in my gallery (something very usual for me xD..): sta.sh/024aqsrqf211

About the story, i totally agree. Fortunately i just have 2 characters in the idea i have and it doesn't have dialogue... is some kind of love story and a lot of drama

Thanks YouTube for the tutorials haha! And that's so cool! I have a lot of respect for those artist! Here i know a lot of cartoonist, and the also draw very nice... but I don't think they do landscape painting and use canvases... what a nice thing for ya!

I've never thought about anything else than PS... most because i'm using the free portable version xD but same as you, i kinda want to upgrade the version for the latest... but the $$$$... i don't know if i could pay that amount of cash right now, even worst, adobe licences are monthly or annual payments and i'm struggling with a lot of adult-boring stuff that requires money :/... is that the same with Clip Studio or it's just one single payment?

My first idea for a webcomic is a slice of life, four panel type comic. I've made the main cast already haha I just need to establish their personalities, and come up with an idea each week or so for a comic strip XD

Wait a minute, there's a FREE Photoshop? XD Getting manga studio 5 ex was one of the main reasons I started up commissions, along with saving up to buy my cosplays. I am more than willing to work for what I want, but my commissions are rather cheap rn, so it'd take a while XD

It's been a while since i went to conventions and all that kind of stuff... not cosplaying hehe xD i was one of those dudes who liked to take pictures with cosplayer girls... puff long time ago... i kinda miss it.... It's awesome that you do cosplays!

I mean... the portable PS is free... but.. PS is not free-free if you know what i mean xD i had to download that version because homework when i was in high school... and i keep using the same launcher file since then, hehe... also long time ago since that... damn i'm starting to feel really old right now xD

Yeah I thought of getting it before I heard of manga studio, but manga studio is def cheaper XD I only remember using Photoshop regularly back in high school, in a photography class I took :3

There is actually a 100% FREE software out there called Krita. It has a stabilizer and lots of different brushes to choose from. And did I mention that it's free? Hahaha XD

I like free stuff xD i'll give a try then, mostly because the glitches I have with the portable PS, if you press by mistake a shortcut for uhmmm 'help' for example, the program will freeze and then shutdown... and all that you didn't save will be gone forever... I hate when that happen xD

That happened to me A LOT on my old computer. I really hated Windows 8 because it just... wasn't that great.

But yeah, I believe Krita is compatible with Windows 7 and newer :3 I believe you can download free brush packs for it, but I'm not entirely sure XD

I haven't used SAI in aaaaageeess. I had the free trial before, but I don't really care for it, because it doesn't have that many features. I believe it is the same price as MS5....XD
