Description

One of the daily sketches I did that I particularly liked - a drawking of the skull of one of my tabletop rpg characters post game. Because it's totally normal to spend time thinking about your character's osteology.

Bonus points if you can guess which animals I based this on.

Also I wrote this sort of alternative ending for the character not long after he started becoming a wedigo, I'm not sure where else to put it so I thought I might as well share it in the description of a drawing of his skull:

Case Notes: “Wendigo”

Subject: Jaspar Canto

Description of Condition: The wendigo appears as a tall human male, the only hints of the creature’s true nature being the exceptional thinness and odd scent – reminiscent of that of a large mammalian predator. The most notable thing about the creature is its diet, which is exclusively human flesh. The creature will attempt to eat the flesh of animals, but the meat rapidly turns to ash upon contact with the creature’s saliva and is subsequently rejected. The creature’s body condition remains poor no matter how well it is fed, although if given abundant food the creature will grow at an alarming rate.

Behaviour: The creature has two distinct behaviour modes, described here as pre- and post-feed. When in the pre-feed mode the creature is highly agitated, exhibiting a range of stereotypies and extensive vocalisation. It responds readily and rapidly to a wide range of stimuli, although the responses are more pronounced when the stimuli provided are ones it is likely to associate with its prey i.e. those that are human in origin. In contrast when in the post-feed mode it is reluctant to respond to most stimuli provided, and does little other than sleep. It has been observed that the duration of the post-feed mode decreases after each feeding.

History: The early stages of the wendigo phenomenon can only be speculated upon since the specimen is quite advanced, but there are things we can extrapolate from the changes in the creature that have occurred during the observation period. The fact that the creature becomes taller and displays limb growth after feeding suggest that the creature was originally more human in its proportions, since it was probable that it fed at least once before it was brought in. The subject has claimed that the phenomenon of consumed matter turning to ash manifested prior to the desire to consume human flesh, this has yet to be verified by witness reports.

Threat Assessment: The wendigo is physically weak despite its size and has so far proved straightforward to restrain. It is not horrifying in aspect, and it is the conclusion of this report that it is its almost-human appearance and speech that pose the greatest threat. The creature possesses some intelligence and is highly motivated by its hunger, willing to risk or even inflict harm upon itself to get at those assigned to contain it.

Suggested Actions: The creature’s lifespan is limited by its nature, it will eventually reach a size that it will be unable to sustain and will starve. In the meantime it is easy to contain and inexpensive to feed, and is a useful specimen for studying its place of origin and the impact of the warp more generally.
