Description Made in a few hours (spread out over maybe 3 or 4 days).
For a friend considerably larger than me (hence the length)

Completely double crochet (American; British: treble crochet), worked lengthwise.

Hook size:
Base chain: 10/J (6.0mm)
Everything else: 9/I (5.5mm)
(Because my base chains are usually too tight, resulting in curlage... there's still a bit of tension even with this adjustment, though =\)

Width: 4.5"
Length: 6'9" (excluding fringe)
Width of each color block: approx. 1" (2 rows)
Length of fringe: 4.5"

All yarn from Red Heart, 100% acrylic, worsted, medium
0312 Black
0385 Royal

The pix (clockwise from left):

length reference (I'm about 5'3")

I like the colors. Blue and black go together so well. Pretty!

My friend chose the colors for this one. I was a bit hesitant to work with two dark colors instead of a dark/light combo (didn't think there'd be enough contrast) but it turned out ok. I'm finishing up another scarf with similar colors (dark green and black) and the colors look pretty well together there, too. Who knows, maybe I'll do this more often

I really appreciate the evenness of the stitch you've used here... especially given that I haven't gotten up the nerve to do much crochet yet! The color combination is a lot of fun - strong contrast without being a light/dark contrast. And the fringe is done so neatly, there's something I have yet to learn (usually I just cheat with a stripe of furry yarn at the edge, my fringe attempts have been extremely time consuming and not so even).

Thanks for the comment!

I've heard that crochet is easier to learn than knitting. (But I also think maintaining a constant tension in crochet is harder.. but that could just be me ). Either way, it seems to be more versatile than knitting--especially the lace work. I think you'd have fun with it after seeing your lacey scarves. Good luck if you do try it!
