Love these rough animations! A good insight on what goes on in the making of traditional animation.

May I ask what program you use to make your animations? I have some experience with Flash and making GIF's in Photoshop, but I'm not sure if they're the same as what you're using.

I use Adobe Flash CC to animate my work ^_^ I export a swf from flash and bring the swf into AE CC and render it over the paper effects as an .mov file ^_^ then I import that quicktime into Photoshop CC and save for web as an animated gif ^_^ There may be a better way to make the gif, but thats the best way I've found to export a high quality gif ^_^

Yeah, I know about the whole torrenting shit. However with doing that you gotta crack the program and it's a pain in the ass.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but the entire CC suite is available for 49.99 a month ^_^ If you're able to save enough for a few months and then do a couple commissions each month, they do sort of pay for themselves ^_^

I'd like to ask, how long do you think it takes you to animate like this. ITs' so fluid in its' movement. Cause i discovered I enjoy doing sketchy art more than clean line art. But I still want to be an animator.

I would say that this took me about 6 hours to do ^__^ I love doing roughs more than cleaned up animation as well ^^ If I were to clean this up it could take me 3 or 4 weeks, just because it is about 300 different drawings, and clean up needs to be so precise. There used to be positions within animation called the rough keyer and the rough inbetweener. Clean up artists came later in the pipeline. I don't know how prevalent they are anymore though.
I will tell you this: As a television animator I do get to do this kind of animation at first. When I get a scene I do all the acting in these roughs, Then I normally have a 2D puppet that I then move over my drawings like a map, so the fluidity is still there, and cleanup doesn't take too long because much of the puppet can be reused from frame to frame ^_^
I definitely still encourage you to be an animator though, even if you don't prefer the clean art style ^_^ You never know what kind of style will be thrown at you at a studio, or what project will come next, so its always a fun learning experience. ^_^

That actually doesn't seem like a long time at all! I could do that! maybe...with enough practice...eventually...eeecchhh...
Really? that sounds familiar. Been a while since i've had an animation class.
You're a tv animator? Awesome! which show?
I'm most experienced with photoshop. is that an ok program to use?
Also THANK YOU SO MUCH for responding!

FluttershytheKind In reply to alorix [2015-07-06 03:59:11 +0000 UTC]
I'm sure you could do it if you set your mind to it ^_^ Practice makes you better every time <3
And yes I am ^_^ Although I keep it a secret which ones I work on, at least for the time being ^_^ I can say though, that it isn't My Little Pony unfortunately ^^
And Photoshop is a fine program to use, it has a relatively well rounded animation tool, but I recommend Flash for digital animation ^_^ Its affordable, unlike ToonBoom, and really well designed. I've used Photoshop for the cleanup on my Style Dialogue animation ^_^ Flash is great for roughs, but Photoshop lends its self to more stylistic clean ups ^_^ Flash is good for either roughs like this one, or crisp cleanup, like Flutterbat Swoon, or at least thats what I've found from working in them
And you're more than welcome! I'm sorry that this reply was late If you have any other questions though, I'd be happy to answer them for you ^_^ All the best!

Absolutely. Thats kinda the only rule for art almost. XD
Its ok. I'm very excited for you regardless. Hope its fun.
I haven't used flash a lot. Like, Photoshop I've used for the past...7 years? maybe? So Its totally second nature to me. But If you think Flash would be much better than I can certainly give it a try.
I'm not too concerned right now with clean lines. My first 'big' (lol yea right) animation would be something like this.
A very sketchy cheap, easy kinda thing. I know a lot of youtuber animators used flash, but i never could figure it out. Maybe its cause i had more access with photoshop.
ITs ok. I'm sure you've been busy. And I probably will have a lot of questions. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and responding.
