This is a fantastic drawing, but every artwork has room for improvement. Now I'm am not suggesting that you take to the original and try and fix anything, it would be much more beneficial if you created a similar new drawing that incorporates the techniques and ideas that are listed below.
1.) the negative space: you choose to quickly blend a shade on to the background, most likely with your fingers. This is a not a bad technique, but it is very amateur. I would suggest including a realistic background to to equalize the realism in the horses. That way the horses do not appear to be floating in space. However i do like how you arranged the subjects onto the page. The composition is well done in the way of balance and positioning.
2.) Outlining: DO NOT OUTLINE! A lot of beginners make this mistake. A clear line can be seen along the jaw of the smaller horse and also on the mother's face. The reason that these lines need to be removed is because they do not exist in real life. But don't worry, this can simply be fixed by the use of tiny hatching. this will create a shadow that will build the depth that you were trying to achieve, the hatching should look like this ////////// smudge these lines together using a blending stump (not your fingers).
3.) Shadowing: I will admit that you have done a wonderful job of shading in the coat of the horses, the mother's face is the high point in the work, especially the hairs on her chin. Also A+ for the large dark shadow running along the smaller horse's back. My one suggestion would be to add a larger range of shade. Use ebony pencils (size 4-6) for the majority of the drawing and then to achieve the darkest shadows use a hint of charcoal pencil. Make sure to use a fixing spray afterwards to prevent unwanted smudging. Also insure that your hands are always clean, you make want to keep a paper towel underneath your hand so that it dose not rest directly on the paper.
