Description Dimorphodon /daɪˈmɔːrfədɒn/ was a genus of medium-sized pterosaur from Europe during the Early Jurassic period, 201 to 191 million years ago.[1] This genus was named by paleontologist Richard Owen in 1859. Dimorphodon means "two-shaped tooth", which is taken from the Greek words δι (di) meaning "two", μορφη (morphe) meaning shape, and οδων (odon) meaning "tooth ". This name refers to the two types of teeth in its jaws – which are rare in reptiles. The diet of this genus has been questioned by researchers, with some early interpretations describing it as an insectivore or piskivore. Recent studies have suggested that Dimorphodon likely hunted small vertebrates, although it still ate fine invertebrates such as insect
