Description I found this juxtaposition of the biggest and smallest cars made in the 1950's rather amusing. They're a 1958 Lincoln and a 1958 (I believe) Nash Metropolitan. Both cars are nicely restored and I don't know if the placement was deliberate or just by chance. Either way it makes for an interesting picture.

Thanks. They just happened to be parked that way at a show years ago. I thought the juxtaposition was hilarious.

I had nothing to do with the positioning. That's how they were parked at the show.

A friend of mine has a photo from the show in Carlyle, PA, where there's a whole row of them and the each have a giant wind up key on the trunk lid.

Thanks. I grew up during the muscle car era and my older neighbors and cousins were all into cars so I got the bug from them. Where I went to 5th and 6th grade (1969-71) was on a main street so we'd watch the cars go by during recess.

They did. I forget the actual displacement but it was somewhere north of 400 cubic inches. The 1958-60 Lincolns were the largest and heaviest cars ever made in the US. Thanks for the fave.

Nice shot! There was something like this at Beach hop this year, a '59 caddy next to a Hillman Imp. That was cool.
8 people in the same car?(from above comment) geez they must have had huge motors!

focallength [2007-09-15 03:30:03 +0000 UTC]

That it is. The photo of the red 1959 Lincoln was taken the same day and it's just a few feet away from these two. The '58 - '60 Lincolns were some of the largest passenger cars ever built in the US. They were the largest unibody cars ever made in the US. They weighed in at 3 tons (6,000 lbs). I talked to someone who owned one at a different show and he said he could get 8 people in the car and they weren't crowded together.

I checked out the link. Cool stuff. I think I may have seen a Messerschmit and maybe a BMW Isetta in my travels to car shows. Those things look deadly.
