I've played all the DMC games and I liked them all. Sure the newer dante could've had a lot more personality put into the guy, but if you take a look a trailer new Dante, and new Dante in game, there's a drastic difference between the two. Phyfeatures aside, I like what they did in the new game with the hair. When Dante unlocks his power his hair becomes silver like his father's, and when he finally accpets who he is, it becomes all silver representing that he's finally accepted who he is. Also another thing people say new Dante didn't grow at all in the entire game, but here's a quote that proves otherwise. This happens late in the game when Kat the girl who finds Dante gets kidnapped by Mundus, and proposes they trade Dante for the girl, and Vergil is against, and so is Dante, but for two different reason. Dante wants to save Kat, by thinking of another way, and Vergil just doesn't care about her, to him she was nothing more than a pawn in his came of chess, but anyways here's the quote:

Dante: I am not abandoning her. We'll find another way.

At the end of DMC4 SE,Dante is so overpowered that it is not even funny. Donny as I prefer to refer to that emo punk of a bitch thanks in no part to the abomination "video game" itself isn't even fit to hold his boxers. It would be a complete massacre in terms of fighting abilities,weapons and so forth.

In response to Eggheadcobra,dooming all of humanity to being eaten,killed, and dominated regardless if he knew about it removes any chance of Donny getting any sort of sympathy,sad backstory or not. Dante at least got over and dedicated his life to protecting humanity while being a somewhat respectable half demon.

More like the hobo life if he lives in a trailer park,has no job and nothing else of merit.

DMC2 does not exist and even Capcom doesn't want to acknowledge it. 

Not even Nero would tolerate this jackoff of a protagonist much less his girlfriend Kyrie. Nero also unlike Donny grew and learned.

A lot of people say the original Dante wins this fight, and I wholeheartedly agree since he's older and more experienced. But quite honestly, Both Dantes have a lot in common to be sympathetic of each other (: Both suffered a loss of parents at a young age, and later didn't know what to fight or live for.

While the original found his place better, DmC Dante took time, and ended up living the dangerous life until his brother found him to fight for something DmC Dante wasn't sure of.

DMC Dante lost a lot of things on DMC2 (Chronologically the final game in the series), so he could relate to DmC Dante's tragic story.

Over all, the fight is possible, but a partnership is even more possible
