Description It's been a while I drew something. And it's really been a while I drew something with a pen. ... I used to be better at this. :/

This is a Piasa. It's some sort of dragon/bird. It's a mythical/legendary creature. His name means 'the bird that devours men'.

I kind of started to like this creature, so I drew him.
I wonder how many know of this creature...

I'm planning on drawing other dragons that are simply neglected. The internet is full of western dragons and asian dragons. I know they're pretty cool and pretty much everyone knows about them. But I thought it was time for something different.

This is incredible. Would you mind if I try to use this design and put it down on wood with the technique Pyrography? I would of course credit your work on my Dev page.

I ended up just using the original painting off the bluffs. Still love this picture and am thinking of doing it. My wood burning art is significantly better now so i think i could actually do your work now

If you ever make it, let me know.
I would also love to see the other one you made, if possible.

I did it a long time ago but forgot to upload it here. The Piasa Bird was a big hit with my family and friends from Illinois. I will upload the picture as soon as I can. Working right now.

They say if you're driving near Alton and your car disappears, the cops shouldn't bother looking for you...because you're already Piasa lunch.

He's a local legend. I live near where he's supposed to have reined his terror upon the Illini Indian tribes. (:

I must admit, I like this ones face a lot better than the one in the book; it's less troll-like.

Alton Illinois Piasa!!! This is an amazing Indian Legend from my family's hometown! Great job!!! I like how you kept his face a humanoid as in the legend. I'm planning on get this legend's tattoo on the back of my leg.

I gotta say man, I was in the middle of drawing this guy myself and decided to look to fellow artists to see what their interpretations were, and yours comes the closest to what I saw in my head! It looks so real, like something to actually fear. The humanistic face is so creepy (which is exactly what I was thinking it'd be after reading the description of the beast in my mythology book). It's also awesome that it isn't a side view, like someone else mentioned. Fantastic. By far the best depiction of a Piasa I've seen today...granted I've only seen 5 today, but still...absolutely fantastic.

Yeah, I always try to avoid standard poses. I've also only saw pictures of the piasa from a side view, so I thought something different would be nice.

Have fun drawing your own Piasa. I'dd love to see it when it's finished.

I actually kind of know of it.

I live around St. Louis, on the Illnois side. The piasa bird is painted on the side of the bluffs around where I live.

Kudos on your penmanship. How long did it take you? Let's see if I can guess the tool...blue ballpoint pen right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FoolishLittleMortal In reply to lovetheangelshadow [2007-08-12 09:55:35 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure how long it took me...didn't look at the time...but I think a few hours.
Yeah, I used a simple ballpoint pen. I just grabbed the pen that was in my reach. This actually started out as a boredom sketch, but when I started to put detail in it I thought it looked ok, so I finished it.

Nice! I like the textures of the scales and stuff, they almost look like they are real.

I've never heard of this Dragon, but then again I haven't heard of a lot of Dragons.(Aside from the odd Cartoon Dragons and the one from Dragon Heart XD )

*Cough* Anyways, Great job on the face

Awesome work ^^

Very nice work; I missed your pen drawings! The details are excellent, and the textures and shading are quite good, as well. The only thing that I have to say is to add line weight in the areas where the light doesn't hit as much. You have it going on in some areas, but not in others, like with the hind leg and tail. Other than that, this looks great! I think it'll be nice to see all of the different kinds of dragons that normally aren't paid attention to.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FoolishLittleMortal In reply to Weatherartist [2007-08-12 15:40:21 +0000 UTC]

You're right about the lineweight... it's kind of neglected here and there.
I think I might do the Tarasque next. Maybe I'll make it another pen drawing.
