A cry of pain screamed out of Fria's mouth as carniverous fangs clamped down onto the back of her neck. The mare had been quietly browsing amongst the thick foliage, finding a rare and delicious huckleberry bush and nibbling contentedly upon the delicate morsels. So involved was she in the task that she missed the small crumbling sound of padded feet on dry leaves. The gigantic lone wolf sprang with muscles like steel traps and with teeth like velcro clung to the sooty buckskin in a desperate attempt at a meal. The mare immediately started bucking, trying to throw the predator off, while unknowingly causing more damage to her precious hide. The other members of the herd were somewhere among the trees as well, but with how dense the underbrush was, there was no way they could have helped. Somewhere in the horse's terrified response, a lightbulb clicked at the thought of the forest. Crying out in pain as the wolf sank his fangs deeper, she ran headlong towards a low hanging branch and timing it just right, bucked with her head held low as the branch came swinging at the canine. With a hideous yelp and a sickening crunch, the animal was blasted off of Fria's back. The mare made no attempt to see if her planned was ultimately successful in ridding the world of the wolf, but gathered her feet under herself and bolted off into the forest. Weaving and panting, the mare's crazed flight was unstopable and she crashed and whinied a warning to her own herd to get out of that area NOW. The girl could feel warmth running down her coat as she ran, knowing it was blood, and knowing that she was most definitely injured severely. Adrenaline kept her flying forward, just needing to get away, away, away.
