Native peoples in Vermont called the Camels Hump mountain "Tah-wak-be-dee-ee-wadso" or Saddle Mountain, which i've also seen translated as "the mountain that is like a seat" which might make more sense... Samuel de Champlain's party in the early 1600's called it as i mention above "lion couchant," which is a symbol of a peaceful, crouching lion out of French heraldry and such as would be on coats of arms... Ira Allen's 1798 map labeled it "Camels Rump" ... a beautiful mountain to hike... and it's on the Long Trail (a trails that runs the length of Vermont from Massachusetts to Quebec. Enjoy.
