Mates Prequel: Line of Attraction

                Francis never felt so much tension course through his body before. He had been so stressed with the nearness of his hundredth birthday and his lack of a mate. It had stressed him out so much that he entered his predatory mode earlier, and animal blood, unfortunately, wasn’t enough to sustain him. He was coming to a point in his existence where he wanted more than a string of one-night-stands with human girls. He wanted the much sought after eternal vampiric bond. He wanted a mate. His eyes reddened beneath his blue contacts that he put in to mask his predatory mode. He decided it was best not to worry about mates and birthdays too much at the moment. He had plenty of time to worry about it tomorrow. He walked around the city for a bit before heading back to his secluded house.

                He enjoyed watching the humans. He loved how they had so many emotions and were so happy about life. He often wondered why so many of them feared death. Sometimes he wanted nothing more than to stop existing, but that wouldn’t happen. He would “live” until Doomsday like all the other vampires. Most vampires say that their existence is made much easier by sharing it with their mates… Francis shook his head. He needed to stop thinking about it for at least five minutes. Nothing could possibly distract him though. Seeing how woman were the problem at the moment, it would only make his situation worse. He continued walking until he noticed a small coffee shop. He sighed at the idea of a nice hot mocha in his hands (being and older vampire, he could eat and drink as a human, but he still required some form of blood to “live”). He walked in and stared at the menu for bit to see what all the shop offered. He wasn’t enthralled by what he saw, but it wasn’t bad either. In the end, he stuck with his original decision to get a hot mocha. He walked to the counter and lowered his eyes as to make polite eye contact with the barista as he ordered.

                “Hi, may I get a…” His heavily French accented voice trailed off as he gazed into big (e/c) orbs. His whole world seemed to slow and his eyes pulsated and reddened even more under his blue contacts than they already were. The barista was beautiful. She was (curvy/thin/etc.) with (h/l), (h/c), (curly/straight/etc.) locks. Her (s/c) skin seemed to glow and looked as if it would be smooth to the touch. Francis’ palms began to sweat as he attempted to calm himself.

                “Sir?” The barista raised a thin eyebrow at him in confusion. He shook his head and plastered his best smile on his handsome face.

                “I’m sorry, Miss…” he looked at the name tag pinned to the woman’s chest. “______.” She smiled and Francis felt as if his dead heart was beating.

                “It’s fine, sir. What can I get for you?”

                “Um, may I have a medium hot mocha?” She smiled again.

                “Of course! That’ll be three fifty even.” Francis scrambled to pull the money out and waited patiently for the barista to make the drink. She finished it quickly. “Here you are, sir.” He smiled and extended his hand to take the drink. She did as well and their fingers brushed. Francis nearly dropped his drink at the sensation. Her silken skin felt so nice against his and she was close enough so that he could inhale her intoxicating scent. It was a heavenly and delicious aroma. Her scent threw him into a state of euphoria. It was different than his meals; he didn’t want to devour her, but to turn her. He only wanted a taste of her blood and for her to join him in his state of death. He regained his consciousness and took the drink from her hand. She smiled, unaware of heinous thoughts. “Thank you and have a good night, sir! Come again!” He would definitely come again. _____. He wouldn’t forget that name. The French vampire blinked in confusion as he continued walking to his house. He was in denial, but all the signs were evident. His body seemed filled and he felt light. He just formed a line of attraction with that barista. Eventually, he would have to change her and she’d become his mate. It seemed that his search was finally over.
