Description She was just coming home from school. It was a sunny day, nice, almost summer. Not an ominious and rainy day like in a movie; no stormy clouds throwing hail and lightning from the sky like in a gothic novel. It was hot and lazy and even the cars seemed to crawl by slowly.

She turned down the street, behind the shop, along the fence, there was a dirt pass that saved her a whole turn around the block. She has taken this path a thousand times before.

This is why. The thousand and first time was unlucky because the other thousand times they have watched her, they already knew, they were waiting for her.

They rushed her, threw a bag over her head, their arms went around her torso, their hands grabed her feet and then they ran. She struggled and she screamed, but in the lazy summer afternoon, by the daydreaming neighbours her cry for help was mistaken for the screams of happy children playing outside.

And there she lay now. Unconscious, shaded from the brightness of the sun by the old trees. Atop a tall hill, on an ancient tomb, waiting to join them...

DOWNLOAD PLEASE (you can't see her eyes in either the small or bigger version and my model worked so hard to make them roll back in her head too for this shot . Or you can also see the detail of the model below.)

Good concept,. Would have had more impact if it was shot at dusk to give it an ominous feeling and she looks asleep more than dead. Eyes do say a lot in an image, but its the first look that counts and as she is so far away the eyes say nothing. But good idea and well done with the story

Thank you

And yes, I realise this image is a bit, well, not quite sacrificial. Truth be told, we weren't thinking of any specific concept when we shot this. we just went out and started shooting. I didn't tell her what to do and soetimes she would pick a place or a pose and I would just snap, other times I would see something and be like 'hey, that seems like a fun place to take a picture, go pose!' and that was pretty much our day.

Then more or less, I went back and looked at our pictures, giggled like mad at some, liked the others and picked out a few that I could look at and think 'i can put a story to this'

So yeah, where technical skill is concerned, ^_^ there really was none. I can't say these images were spontaneous, she did pose for them, but the way she did wasn't really a planned endevour. (I would not have had her wearing her school univorm for one, if I had this planned ahead of time. as is, we took what we had and rolled with it)

Spontaneity is great , dont ever stop. Sometimes just being there and going for it is well worth it. Last week I was shooting some pics for a poster campaign, when there was a fire next to our location, we went to have a look and ended up using the fire engines etc as a backdrop for some snatched images.
So , simply go for it

Yeah....*giggle* we made it a bit less peaceful, too much giggling in the most inapropriate of places. but what can I say, it was a nice day ^^

Doesn't make a difference really to me. The centered composition is boring.. try moving around your models and the place to see what look better with your camera. Also try using Depth of field, adding something profound to the picture make it way more interesting.

The colors are good and that's a nice attempt but.. it needs more work.

I downloaded the full-sized version and I see what you mean! The rolled back eyes really does give this image a nice effect. She looks dead o_o

The description goes well with the image... I like that you didn't turn this into some stereotypical, over-manipulated macabre image. Just the pose of the model is enough to get your message across. I also like how you centered her in the photograph. It works well here.

The only thing I may have done differently is to move the camera up a bit to give the trees behind her more height. It might make her look more small and helpless. But then again, it may have cut too much off of the photo, so who knows?

All in all, great work!

Oh, forgot to mention, about the centering of her on the tomb: we wanted it to look like she was dumped on it as opposed to climbing on herself. Normally when people climb up, the naturally move away from the edge, so we left her right where she was

Haha, we tried! That stone tomb she's lying on was almost as tall as I am and even though I precariously balanced myself on a tall stone fence on the other side of the sidewalk to take that picture, I couldn't get much height. It's unfortunate, but there was nothing there at the moment to give me a bit of a leverage in this shot.
