An old picture from about 2 or 3 years ago of a character I picked up on the Kadanzer Weyr website, a sort of story-sharing fan website dedicated to the Pern universe.

Yes, she is supposed to be quite unattractive to look at.

Origin: A minor hold in Sunstone Territory
Location: Kadanzer Weyr
Occupation/Rank: Wingrider
Hair: Color: Light brown, starting to gray at temples. Style: It is about waist length. She keeps it in a severe braid. When released, it is overly curly and very thick. It is an unruly mess that only a braid and a kerchief can keep at bay. She struggles with it daily, usually having to wet it before she braids it. She has often thought of cutting it all off.
Eyes: Her eyebrows are naturally thick; but she grooms them so they are shapely. She has large green eyes.
Height/Build: She is on the short side, about 5'1", and used to be pudgy with a thick, lumpy body which used to bulge at unflattering points. Since she had impressed, through a lot of hard work she has trimmed her body down so it's rather shapely, if a bit too muscular for a female. She has a very definied body with a flat stomach and strong arms and legs, but her heavy bones and square shoulders give her a somewhat masculine butch appearance offset only by a set of large, round and quite impressive breasts. She also has a big butt that is attractive to some men, but she is ashamed of it and tries to hide it under clothing.
Marks/Scars: A few cuts and burns from her work at her Hold. Nothing overly large or severe enough to note.
Other Physical Features: Her face is broad and flat. Thin lips hide crooked teeth. Her nose is huge and hooks under itself. Her skin is lightly tanned and freckled on the back and shoulders, she burns at least once a summer.
Voice: The only feature Yarrow has that could be described as lovely is her voice. It is sweet and soft. She has caught the eye of the Weyrharper and has received a few lessons since she came to Kadanzer and though she doesn't like to be the center of attention, she will sing in small groups for entertainment.
Clothing: Usually loose blouses and long skirts, since Impressing has taken to wearing loose pants. She feels ashamed of her body and dresses to hide it. Often wears dark, somber colors despite the hot weather. For a long time she feared wearing her riding leathers, but by now she is used to them.
