how did you approach learning hands ? is it just happening by doing a lot of studies ? (they are my worst enemies)

Yes and no, this study was a great exercise on how to paint hands, but being able to have accurate looking hands is more about the drawing stage. And in order to draw hands well you have to be able to construct them out of smaller, easier to grasp shapes like boxes or cylinders. So, yes do a lot of studies, but make sure to do the right kind of studying.
