ok, i still don't have sword/shield yet, but i just found out eiscue exists and.... yikes. i think it might just be my least favorite pokémon design, like, ever. it's legit so ugly and weird and i just really wanted to redesign it to look more like an actual functioning pokémon that could exist. also i'm art-blocked as hell and i wanted to draw a pokémon fight mefirst of all, the ice cube on its head looks so out of place. it looks like someone just slapped it on. so i tried to incorporate the ice more into its body so it looks more like it's actually part of the pokémon rather than just an afterthought.
secondly, i thought at first glance that the two different forms were evolutions, so i just went with that. i decided to turn the ice-head form into Eiscute (ice + cute) and the no-ice-head form into Penguiver (penguin + quiver/shiver).
overall, i think this looks much more natural? idk. i like my designs more, not trying to be narcissistic or anything. i also made lil pokédex entries for both of them aaaa
Eiscute - It is very top-heavy and sways around quite a bit as it walks. Sometimes it trips and cracks its head, but it can always repair it with more ice.
Penguiver - Incredibly nervous and shy, it tends to keep to itself. Swimming through freezing waters helps it calm down if it is panicking.

ooh yeah i was thinking about redesigning the impidimp line (as well as the fossils). was never a big fan of their designs either

This is nice, although I'm not sure if it keeps up with the entire "Came from elsewhere and keeps it's head inside an ice block" thing.

It has a cool ability, but the design is just————— eh. It’s just a penguin with an ice cube covering its head. I know Squirtle is just a blue curly-tailed turtle, but at least it looks cool.

yeah, that's how i feel. it's just lazy imo. like squirtle looks good because they were creative with it. they didn't just take a normal turtle and paint it blue. they put thought into the design and made it work. with eiscue all they did was take a normal penguin and shove an ice cube on its head

seriously! i loved pretty much every pokémon design up until around x and y. that's when they started going downhill imo.

I have Pokémon Black2 and I agree with you when I say that Gen 5's Pokémon were actually good battle-wise AND design-wise. I don't know what Nintendo and Game Freak were thinking when they made X and Y.

i thought the majority of pokémon designs in x/y and sun/moon were good (especially goomy i would die for it) but i just really didn't like x/y as a game overall, it was just too easy.
