Description Table of proportions... Without it, I can't imagine any books of Redwall series. Left to right: shrew, mouse, mole, vole, squirrel, hedgehog, hare, otter, badger, weasel, rat, stoat, ferret, marten, cat, fox, wolverine.

you should do a birds comparison chart for redwall.

And beavers. And hamsters... and muskrats. Some animals do not fit this picture.;)
They are very rare in the Redwall series.

This is a really great table! I have most of these proportions down fine, but somehow I've always seen cats as faaaaar larger than foxes for some reason, with badgers and wolverines even bigger.

brilliant. I used to love reading as many Redwall books as I could. I stopped when I started writing my own book as I didn't want to be influenced by them without realising it...as soon as my books finished I'm definitely reading them all again...may take while before that though!

Well, I sometime had a problem relating the size of the various creatures, like was a fox taller than a hare, or how big a badger was to a rat.  This is realy helpful.  Thank you for doing this.

Great line-up there!
Pretty much how I rate the size-difference myself, too - with anthro-hares being about human-sized in relation to us.
They all look rather cute, toO!

DCLeadboot In reply to FortunataFox [2013-11-23 09:48:56 +0000 UTC]

No prob!
This scale kind of applies to Danbuster's world too, for me; with Danbuster being human-sized, Frederick the ferret being a head shorter than Dan, and then Spencer the rat being a head shorter than Fred.
Into this mix, we also throw birds ranging from smaller than Spencer (e.g. sparrows and finches) to towering over Danbuster (golden eagles, like Marquila)
And also urban, domestic or farm animals such as cats, dogs, horses, goats, etc exist in this world. Their scales are rather more condensed and a little more variable (depending on their breeds)

Хм, выходит, что выдра выше ласки?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FortunataFox In reply to Mordukan [2013-11-15 03:22:39 +0000 UTC]

Конечно! И намного тяжелее: выдра не многим уступает кошке.

Mordukan In reply to FortunataFox [2013-11-15 05:21:16 +0000 UTC]

Интересно, лисица больше кошки, но именно последние доминируют над первыми. Хотя, наверное, лисицы не настолько больше кошек.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FortunataFox In reply to Mordukan [2013-11-16 09:55:46 +0000 UTC]

Они больше. Точнее, выше, более долговязые. Но у кошек мощнее мускулатура - от того они и доминанты.

of course ! how big do you think the Dino's in my story would compare to them?  I think the smallest Dino's would be something comparable in size to a fox at least

I guess that would be about right, a Compsagnathus (Compy) would be about fox sized, but there are even smaller Dino's in the empire too.  Like Microraptor which is about the size of a small chicken

yep, no joke really that small , my avatar Cal the Dienychus is about human sized, so a badger or wolverine I think would be at least up to his knees

Julian the cat from the first Redwall cartoon seems an exception, he was at least 3x bigger than Matthias.

Why are there - 50 times bigger! On the rarity ugly cartoon (of course, on the part of proportions).

Well that first book dd came out at the very beginning and I suppose Mr. Jacques hadn't quite figure how the proper sizes or approach to proportions for each species in the series as it continued in the books that followed.  It was obviously they had to be of an equal size in order to habit on the same level as each other.
