Something for a friend who mentioned not having any pictures of her character....hope you like it.
I've been working on this off and on for about a month or so until I finally put it down because I just couldn't get the composition to work. A few visits to istockphotos.com helped me get the vector art I needed to polish it off.
The kanji is from redinkstone.com and says "Shooting Star" and "Seven Gods of Fortune" They seemed to suit the piece.
This character is a boy actually, but he doesn't look like a boy at all.
His name is Natsuo Rikiya.

The colour and feel to this is awesome ^^
...about the composition, just split the pic into thirds (veritcally as well as horizontally) and place the objects in the pic on where these lines occur, as the viewers eyes are drawn into these areas. It's very hard to make a character look placed right, if their directly in the centre ... but you probably already know all this lol

Very nice. It looks like a wood block print moderinized (if that makes any sense). The composition is very nice and the flat colors in the background is a nice touch of simplicity. I like this a lot.

i really love the outfit design as well as the siplicity of the background. everything really goes together well in this image.
seeing as how this is a friend's character then please tell him/her that the design is beautiful! but its a boy?? uhm.. hehe he makes a pretty girl ^^ the reason i was confused was the curl/curve of the hair that makes it look like he has some boobies and the lips look like it has some lipstick on but i think the hair makes him look more like a girl.
either way this is a very nice picture!

Gender aside, this is such a beautiful piece! I love the mix of starkness and ornateness in it. It really reminds me of Japanese woodblock prints. I hope your friend is happy with it - *I* certainly would be!!

I absolutely love this, from the composition to the design itself. Great work with the lantern and glow effects, as well as the fold and lie of her obi and furisode. It's very beautiful. I also like the detail with the tekko and foot guards, a rarely-done-well bit of detail. The smooth cel-shading is excellent. Pen tool? One thing, you might want to get just a little more contrast out of it. It may just be my monitor though.
