Description We drove all night before we stopped for a break and to eat at a small diner on the outskirts of Battery City.

It was nice to see Gerard again.  We were able to joke around; we were on that high before the reality of the mission set in.

I sat on the hood of Revenge's car as he filled it with gas.  Gerard joined me; he put his arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer and kissed my temple.

"Toxic," Revenge called, "It's time to go. If we want to be there by midnight, we have to leave now,"
I nodded and kissed Gerard goodbye, "I'll see you later,"
He returned my smile, "Later,"

It was my turn to drive. Revenge slept in the backseat and Cyanide sat in the passenger seat next to me.  We made small talk about the weather and the mission.  It was relaxing, having someone familiar to talk to, even if we only talked about the weather or the mission.  I didn't really know Cyanide that well; I knew she was a strong Killjoy.  I knew her brother was in jail in Battery City and that she was here trying her hardest to break him out.  Likewise, she didn't know much about me, but nevertheless we still cared for each other.  She was my team member, she had my back and I had hers.

At sunset, she took her turn driving.  It was so much easier when we had Cherri Cola in our team.  Having him made our turns shorter and gave us more time to rest and to prepare.

I closed my eyes and tried to sleep, but the lights overhead filled me with anxiety.  What if they knew we were coming?  What if they were prepared for our arrival? What if there were too many to handle?  We didn't want to kill them, the draculoids were just people under the spell of the drugs, and they were innocent.  Korse was an android; it would be difficult to get him under control.

Cyanide stopped just outside Battery City.  We would wait there for others before we moved on.  I didn't realize I was holding my breath until Gerard pulled up next to us.

"Are you ready?" he asked.
Cyanide nodded, "Ready to go,"
Gerard nodded, "Let's go,"

I couldn't shake the bad feeling coursing through my veins.  Something was wrong.
