I could be wrong, I just don't remember seeing any of them in shops, school or librarys when I was little. Other books like Winnie the Pooh, Horrible Histories, Harry Potter were available so I think it's just that they weren't that popular at that point. With the films out I've seen a couple of them about but not before.

I just had it happen after the con was at. I got up early on saturday and sunday and I didn't sleep that well on saturday night. Sunday night I was out like a light
