Things haven't been very productive lately due to having to go to different places but I did do a little doodle based on an idea I got for Matthew. It's a long one so I won't bore everyone with it but it was fun to try and push the pose with him quickly
Hopefully I will get more progress on the book done soon.
Oh his tail is meant to be on fire, that bit is fine.

In this picture he's actually running from his Mum, who has ended up in the wrong crowd and just tried to chop off his legs so she could "keep her son".
Thank you very much Matthew's legs make it a bit of a challenge as they don't bend in quite the same way so I'm pleased with how it came out

I have never tried to draw a faun-type character but I think they're pretty cool. Always associate them with nature and forests

She wanted to do it so she could have him back.
Matthew wasn't born half horse, he was a normal boy. He got hit by a train though which caused the loss of his legs though when he was 5. In the world he lives in, you can combine a human and an elemental beast (huge versions of animals with element powers) into one body, when this happens anything the human host body was missing, is replaced by the animals, along with the usual markers of ears/tail/wings. Society has looked down on people like this for a long time though as they can be dangerous. When he was 6 his mother decided to go along with this as their family was too poor to afford prosthetics and she couldn't bare seeing him unable to walk/run.
When he was 8 though the laws changed as the hatred from society grew worse and people like Matthew were considered too dangerous so were made into pets/salves and families had to hand over their children. His mum refused to do so and she went to prison for it. In prison she met with other parents who had gone through the same thing and desperately wanted their children back. They come to the conclusion that so long as they look human, they can get away with taking them back. When released from jail she tracks Matthew down, takes him away from his master and by the time he realises what's going on, they are trying to cut his legs off. He's not keen on his legs but he'd like to at least have a discussion about this kind of thing first so he panics and gets out of there.
They are often thought of alongside nature and can be fun to draw

Yeah poor Matthew doesn't get the best of starts. I wouldn't say everything in the world is bad, just the slave thing is pretty bad. At the story with his Mum returning takes places though steps are taking place to change things

It kind of reminds me of Cinder - have you read it - where cyborgs are seen as less than human and almost as pets, in their case because they were given another chance at life and they're sort of seen as having cheated death, which others think is unfair, and some cyborgs have powers.
Its different of course but that's kind of where my mind went

Its not that similar I think but that one element is. Cinder is a combination of different fairytales, your world is completely your own. The basic idea - people with a visible difference are persecuted for it - is kinda common (X-Men, the Witcher, Harry Potter, and I think even Divergent has this thing called "Factionless"? There are also two other series that have this recently - I think its Shatter Me and this Disney superhero book series I forget the name of . . .). However, I don't think I ever saw it when the difference is an animal characteristic. And your focus is very specific too - family dynamics and friendship. Most of the ones I know are about violence and revolution - either the oppressed class rebels or gets caught up in a war between two dominant classes. Yours doesn't seem to be at all like that.

You're right the characters don't get caught up in a war, they just want to get home. There's possibility for the world to end up in a revolution but it's not something the characters end up in the comic. .

They don't rescue a princess XD If you take the classic roles from the story, Marzi takes the usual princess role and Bubble goes on a journey to rescue him, taking the standard prince role. It's just changed to them being brothers instead.

No their world is different as they are all born the way they are. There are 5 races in their world, Rabbits, Cats, Owls, Mice and Foxes.

When I talk about book projects I'm on about a book I've been hired to illustrate rather than something I've written myself. I write comics rather than books.

It depends on the project and the client. Most of the time it's a lump sum for the job which will depend on the amount of pictures asked for and how much detail they have/if they have colour etc. Some people will pay a smaller lump fee and then offer royalties too.

Not exactly. It goes out when it gets wet temporarily, when he's sleeping or if there's a limiter blocking it for some reason but other than that, it's always on fire. It's not why he's worried in the picture.
