In the mood for LotR once again, probably my favourite topic for practice purposes. This time the sad and lonely Smeagol. Circa 2 hours in Photoshop.Many that live deserve death. And some that died deserve life. Can you give it to them Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play yet, for good or ill, before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many.

Hey you weren't kidding! There's some awesome stuff in this collection. This one is really incredible. The detail you put into his hair is great, the lighting and shadows are excellent, right down to the shine on his lips, and the colors are spot on. This is a really awesome picture. I also enjoy that dragon doodle you posted as well. Very nice.

This brings to mind the moment when Gollum sees Sam and Frodo huddled asleep, and the usually lean, mean, twisted Gollum is described as looking like a small, very old, very pitiful old hobbit.

Which is why I prefer to think that Frodo brought him home with them and he spends most of his time annoying Lobelia

Nah, it would go against his purpose as a dramatic persona. After all, the intensity of the volcano scene lies in him committing what is at the same time his ultimate act of betrayal and of redemption (albeit involuntarily).

But as a person I care about, he deserves better. Even if he did die happy.
And I tend to think that his death was subconscious suicide, a way to save the day and keep the ring forever. It's a bit too hard to imagine Smeagol slipping otherwise.

Well, he died burning in a volcano, clutching at an all-powerful item he was obsessed with... which, when you think about it, is actually a pretty badass death!
I don't know if we can say it was subconscious suicide, but we can at least agree that in the end, it's probably was what he was fated to do.
